Just for kicks - 350 pt Everyone Air Drops army

By felkor, in Dust Warfare

Combat Platoon

Bazooka Joe 15 AP
Bot Hunters (Gunners + extra bazooka) - 20 AP
Punisher - 100 AP
Platoon Upgrade: Air Drop on Punisher - 5 AP

Elite Platoon

Heavy Command Squad - 30
Action Jackson (paired with Heavy Command Squad) - 24 AP
Red Devils - 32 AP
Grim Reapers - 30 AP
Fireball - 85
Platoon Upgrade: Air Drop on Fireball - 5 AP

Total AP = 346

Not sure if I'd really try this, but it could be fun to see what happens when you don't deploy a single unit at the beginning of the game but instead air drop everyone in. :-)
(I don't have the book with me, but I'm 90% sure these are legal platoons.)

How are B. Joe, the Bot Hunters, and the Grim Reapers getting air-dropped?

You put them inside the heavy walkers.

Oh yeah. I guess if I had them, I'd actually think of things like that, lol!

Btw, Felkor, could you PM me their dimensions? I need to know what size foam to get for when I order them. If the legs are easily removable, give me the dimensions without legs as well please. And don't forget height, as it's the most important distance to determine foam thickness. Thanks.

I'll try to remember tonight to give them a quick measure.

The legs cannot be easily removed, but the machine gun on top can be. I'm thinking 3" foam would work, since they're a bit shorter than other walkers, but I'm not sure. Battlefoam has made a foam insert for the heavy walkers (enough for 1 from each faction.) You could check out the Battlefoam site and it might have the info you need.

Theirs is 4.5" thick, which might be to more benefit the Axis Walkers (which appear a bit taller), but I believe it's mostly because their other DT foam set adds up to 7.5" and when combined with a 4.5" tray, exactly fills up their P.A.C.K. 720, which holds 12" of foam.

Either way, didn't mean to derail your thread.

I like your, "Behind Enemy Lines - Everyone Air Drops Army" list. It looks fun to play, win or lose. Although, not having any targets to maneuver on, I'd probably just camp until you started dropping stuff on the board if I were your opponent.

True enough. It would depend what the objectives are, I suppose. I found when air dropped 2 units in my game last night, I had to wait until Round 2 to do it because I had initiative and my opponent hadn't moved her troops much yet, and there simply wasn't anywhere to put them on her end of the board because her troops were well spread out. So a crafty opponent could certainly make you pay for having an all-air-drop force and you might not like where you get forced to land them.

That is the trick.

If someone air drops everything, the smart move for the oposing force is to spread out to force landing zones that are most hindering to the air drop force.

The goal would be to force landing zones in the main fire corridors for the walkers, if possible.

Or, you know, just take a very heavy Soldier 2 list, several Scouting Hanses in reserve, and fast Gorillas & Zombies, and spread out with mass March orders and Hanses coming in from the sides to deny any legal landing zones at all. gran_risa.gif

Yeah, I did a similar thing last night. My opponent had the Hans and was keeping it in Reserve, so I spread my forces out so that there was only one spot on my side of the board where she could deploy it, and that was about 14" away from my Tank Busters.

True, but of course, this means you know from the start what your opponent plans to do before you even make your list… And also, the air drop list isn't that bad even if you don't air drop them… so if you see your opponent has built an air-drop-denial army, you could still just deploy them regularly and I think they could handle themselves.

Yes indeed they could. cool.gif
