Island Rockery + Focussed offence question

By Daenarys, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hypothesis :

I am House Greyjoy and win a military challenge by four. I subsequently discard Island Rockery ( F73 ) and pay 1 gold to reveal a new plot card.

I reveal Focussed Offence as my new plot card. Does that mean i can do another challenge ( non military ) and claim 3 ?

Yes you can declare one challenge.

Think of it this way : if you were not able to declare one challenge in the situation you describe, would you be able to declare one challenge even if you did not declare any this phase? Following your reasonning, you could not, because last turn you had likely already declared one challenge. This is no different than having already declared one this phase.

The limit of declaring one challenge starts running from the moment you reveal the plot.

I am still a little unclear.

When you play the new plot card do you also change all the stats and card text ?

You use the stats of the new one.

But that's likely useless for the gold because you count it during Marshalling phase, not Challenge. Same for Initiative. You reveal another amount but there is nowhere in the Challenge phase timing when you determine the First player again.

So really, the main point is to modify your claim.

Btw, you don't play a plot. It is revealed. It can matter for some other effects.

More to the point, the "one challenge" limit on Focused Offensive starts when it is revealed and ends when it goes to your used pile. If you have done other challenges in the Challenge phase before revealing Focused Offensive, they do not count toward the limit on the plot.

Ok so would the text of the new plot card be blanked and you still use the text on the first plot ?

What happens with something like focussed offence where it states text cannot be blanked ?

The text on your revealed plot card is the active text, no matter how it became your revealed plot card.

The point is that your revealed plot does not look into the past - to a time before it was your revealed plot - to then limit yourself. With Focused Offensive, when it becomes your revealed plot, you get to initiate just 1 challenge. The plot does not look backwards into the round to see if you have already initiated a challenge; it only looks forward to make sure you only get 1 from that point on.

No text blanking. No "inactive" plot. It's just timing. You don't look backwards.

Huh? Where did you get an idea like this?

So just so im clear

Lets say i play Focussed Offence and an opponent plays Bungled orders.

I go first and win my Focussed Offence challenge against a 3rd player. Then i get attacked and cant defend because of Focussed Offence and because of Bungled Orders i have to reveal a new plot card.

I reveal a new plot card and no longer have Focussed Offence showing, does this mean i can now defend as i no longer have the Focussed Offence card text restricting me ?

Yes. The restriction on the plot card, just like any other card, is a constant effect. As soon as the source of the effect is gone, the effect stops.

Im clear, thanks all

Another quick hypothesis :

I am player 1 in a 3 player game and play Focussed Offence and become first player.

I do a military challenge and win by 4 or more and therefore take my three claim.

I then have the location Island Rookery and i discard from play and pay 1 gold to reveal a new plot card.

Because the replacement plot card does not have the restriction of 1 challenge does this mean i in theory would still have 2 challenges ( Intrigue and power ) available ?
