A 200 point first game.

By PliskinAJ, in Dust Warfare

I am looking at playing my first game of Warfare this Friday. Using the the original dust box a bit of conversion and the boss box and snipers.

Ranger Command Squad

Assault Ranger Squad

Combat Ranger Squad

Recon Ranger Squad

Sniper Team

2x Pounder

Bazooka Joe

Improved comms

I figure the sniper and the Pounders could help suppress units so I can get the assault rangers into flamer/shotgun range. The combination of the 2 radio operators and bazooka Joe I should be able to spread out without worring about order range. Since I have only played tactics is this a good plan?

I just played my first game at 150 points and after that I must say that I concur with the suggestion given in other threads that heroes maybe are not a good idea for the first game, they have too many exception to the general rules.

I would try to keep it simple, no heroes and one light walker. Also I would try to choose units for both factions without too many special abilities, so probably no jump or if they have, be sure to check then not twice but three times before the first round (we forgot that jump does not trigger reaction, for example)

We used the "unprepared" deployment as per March mission on page 72, with mixed feeling, in a way it is good because the units enter from the outside of the board per "blocks" in the first three rounds which allows you to go slowly and re-read the manual as you play, the rounds become more acitve as more units enter the field. That part I liked.

However, the game will be also slow itself and there will not be too many things happening in the first rounds, which for my opponent was deadly boring, specially as we did not approach too much to each other and there were almost no reactions so that we were waiting for the other to move and doing nothing in the mean time.

Good luck with the game anyway :)
