Confused about CPs

By Kiyote, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

So, I picked up the Core set for AGoT and the store had a few different CPs available. Some were white and some were a tan colour. I grabbed what I could of the white ones because they had the little LCG logo on them. However, the tan ones (I believe one was "Ancient Enemies" or some such thing?) listed them as being for the CCG.

While I'm sure they can be compatible, are those tan packs in fact *not* for the LCG? I'm trying to stick to the LCG format cards because that's what my friends are sticking to. (Makes the games more entertaining when we have the same advantages/disadvantages)

So, anyway, my question is simply...are the white boxes LCG and the tan boxes CCG?

Hi, this question has been discused before and I admit that it is a little confusing, but really simple.

Originally the "tan" CPs without the LCG on it were released as a expansion for Five Kings edition (CCG), but they are already in the LCG format since they are NOT random and you know exactly what you buy in each pack. So that is the LCG policy. But then the made a radical decision. With the coreset they changed the design and called everything LCG and stopped supporting the old (CCG) format. So later all the packs are white and already have the LCG on it since it is the only supported format now. But all the older CPs are considered LCG legal too since they have NON-random content even though they have been originally not designed for that. So they are little different but legal.

I think somewhere on the tan "Clash of Arms" cps they mention LCG format, as the LCG decision was made prior to the release of those Chapter Packs. It was a later decision to got to White Borders.

The color of the Chapter Packs I think just helps denote what "cycle" the packs are from. Clash of Arms packs are tan, Time for Ravens packs are White, the Kings Landing packs releasing in a few months will probably be another color.

Well, I guess the question to follow this up is are they planning to release what was in those boxes as "official" LCG cards? ie - If I wait will the cards in those boxes cycle in to an "official" LCG CP?

The first six chapter packs are considered by FFG as part of the LCG card pool and thus "official" in that sense. If you were to participate in an LCG format event at a gameshop, cards from those first six chapter packs would be valid. I highly doubt that they will ever be reprinted wholesale (perhaps a single reprinted card here and there). Of course, if you expect to play only within your circle of friends, you all might decide to ignore those chapter packs and limit yourself to just the Core Set and the subsequent, white bordered, chapter packs.

One more point to keep in mind: I don't have experience with the tan packs myself, but I've read a fair number of complaints here on the boards that many of the cards lack synergy with the cards in the core set. So if you have a self-contained play group, LetsGoRed's advice to stick to the white-bordered cards might be good advice.

I think that's exactly what I'll do. One of the main reasons we're all getting back in to the card-game format is that now the rich-kid syndrome is greatly reduced. Although, I have to admit, the CPs weren't exactly what I was expecting. I thought it would two of each card, period. (Based on the 40 card, 20 distinct description on the box). I thought that they would make their little extra when I found out that 3 was the max copies of a card per-deck, so you would "need" to buy two of each CP to be able to field the max you could use of a given card. I was more than a little surprised to see the enforced rarity in the CP in the LCG format...but we're still going to go with it.

just to clarify, those complaints at least recently have been about the white colored (A Time For Ravens cycle) packs. Also, if you want to have any synergy with most of those cards you are going to NEED one of the tan colored (Call To Arms cycle) pack, the one entitled Ancient Enimies.

Re: 'rartity' in CPs. FFG did a really good job of making the one-shots be unigue so you could be perfectly fine building a deck with only one of your desiered CP. There are not a lot of CPs that you absolutly need 3 of. So rarity is really not a factor.

That's good to know, thanks. I'm not really all that familiar with the game so I only had my knowledge of previous CCGs to go. (Oh, how I wish FFG would be able to LCG NetRunner!)
