First game under my belt, thanks d6g

By CrashOveride, in Dust Warfare

I am a big fan of thed6generation.com podcast (if you haven't heard, go check it out). They have recently been up in arms about DUST Warfare. I grabbed the rule book and the core starter set and I am off to the races. I started painting up my miniatures with the intention of just doing their faces then dry-brushing. That didn't last long, as I started paining I really began to appreciate the miniature. So I am going to spend a little more time on them painting some details.

This weekend my 8 year old and I played our first game. I have to say around turn 3 we really had a good idea of what was going on and did not need to flip through the rulebook as much. Our next game will be a lot less too. We both had lots of fun in what was a "back and forth" battle. With the Reaction system we were always thinking and planning, I liked it.

In this forum there is a post with printable cards with proper stats on them for each unit, I highly recommend either using these or creating your own. This made our game so much easier and fun. I printed them out and taped them to the nice cards that came with the starter set.

I will continue my painting and in the next couple of games we will use vehicles to test out those rules. Can't wait to play more!

I had the same game play experience with my boys and we are having a lot of fun with the game. This game is easy enough for them to grasp in a game or two but still complicated enough with the reactions and suppression to keep even veteran gamers tactically involved.

I listened to the podcast. Thanks for the tip. I really liked it :)

Thanks for the kind words, gents! We've been hearing great things about the game since we first saw it, so glad our initial opinions have been sustained.

Russ and I played on Tuesday for the first time (against each other) since Adepticon . . . it went very well for me right up to the point where I forgot I wasn't playing 40K and didn't secure my objectives correctly . . . but MAN what a fun game, eh? gran_risa.gif

I enjoyed the podcast as well. I had never sat at the computer listening to people talk for over an hour before so that tells you how interested I was right there. Unlike many others though, I was already sold on the game and had lots of stuff when I heard it, but when new people ask me about the game I tell them they should listen to it (it saves me from talking about it for an hour, lol). Then I assure them that the models are not "gumby" happy.gif

Funny story though on that was in my LGS when a guy saw that the antenna on my radioman was bent and commented on it. He drives a VW with one of those rubber antennas on it and I pointed out the window at his car that had a bend in his antenna and said, "I know… It's unrealistic to have a bent antenna." Everyone laughed and he replied by saying, "touche". gran_risa.gif
