Yet another beginner question

By rdw5150, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hi!

Yet another beginner question....

If I go through the gate to the Otherworlds, but am then sent back early via a spell or an encounter (I do not move to both sides of the Other world), do I get an "explored" token so I can close the gate?

I would assume so, but you never know

Thanks!

Peace

Roger

Yes you do.

The only exception is if you aren't returned to a location with a gate to the other world you've been in.

Not true. For example a gate box will let you return from any gate on the board, not jus the one you were in and you stll get an explored marker.

Really the only way to return and NOT get a marker is an encounter that specifically says "return to Arkham but don't get an explored marker". other than that almost any way you return (cept Lost in time and space) gives you a marker.

I also recall some OW encounter that might dump you at Black Cave, you don't get an explored marker even if BC has an open gate on it.

Thanks!

This is how I thought it would go.

Peace

Roger

I didn't think of the Gate Box. But it's the Gate Box that is the exception, not what I wrote.

I'm currently away from the game, but there are definitely encounters (well, at least one, as Dam mentioned...) that transport you to a different location without you getting an explored marker.

That was a ruling Kevin Wilson gave in the former forums:

Q: An Abyss encounter says "the caverns split" and has one make a Luck roll, and if one gets 0-1 successes one must "Move to the Black Cave". If there is a Gate atop the Black Cave (not necessarily to the Abyss), would one get an explored marker and be allowed to close it next turn? Or does one not get an explored marker since the card does not say "return to Arkham"?

A: No. You got spat out of an unexpected exit and were not returned to Arkham.

Well, that's not true either.

Fair enough. Usually when someone returns from OW to a different gate its with a gatebox but you're technically right. Like has been said there are encounters that do it too but these are much rarer so I wasn't really thinking along those lines.
