Why is it so hard to find cards?

By Hollowbandit, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hi all I have been trying to expand my collection recently. I'm trying to get the rest of the deluxe expansions. I still need the Queen of dragons and Kings of the storm expansions. Fantasy flight games seems to always have a poor stock of deluxe expansions. Does anyone know why this is?

My theory is that theyre still not used to the supply and demand of being a much bigger company than they were 5 years ago but I don't really have any hard evidence for that theory. I've been wondering this myself though, it feels like reprints for in-demand cards seem to be really slow. Or is that just Agot? My Local shop always has like 20 CoC asylum packs and atleast 3 or 4 deluxe boxes but never any Agot

Not a bad theory. Maybe agot is not as popular as the other games. If that were the case then there should be lots of stock though. I guess it will jut remain a mystery. It makes it kind of frustrating for newer players.

(What I mean is: if you and 3 friends want to start playing Arkham Assylum or Battlestar Galactica, you only need 1 box for the 4 of you. If you and 3 friends want to start playing AGoT, or any of the LCG's, you'll probably want 2-4 boxes of the Core Set between you. At least. If the product reprint schedule is based on a board game cycle, you're likely to hit some low times in the LCG availability.)

If you're at all likely to be passing through Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada any time soon (which I strongly doubt, but what they heck?), I advise stopping by Tramp's Comics and Games. We have quite a bit at the moment.

But as an actual on-topic comment, I totally agree with ktom's assessment of the situation re: FFG's reprinting schedule. They just seem to have not figured out how to keep up with demand yet.

If you don't mind paying retail prices (in other words, you're not looking for discount prices on CCG Armory, etc.), then our local Manhattan game shop usually has a good stock, including deluxe expansions and chapter packs. I am told they ship anywhere in the US for $2, or something like that (at cost for international shipping, I think).

Gameshop name is "Compleat Strategist"…just Google then call them.

I wouldn't normally advertise for a game shop on these forums, but this is the second or third post I've seen in less than a week where people are complaining about products. Just 2-3 months ago I bought the pack that has Samwell in it (supposed to be tough to find) in the shop. They have others that they can order as well.

Thanks I might do that. This is very helpful.

It's probably just the opposite. That AGoT is more popular, so the print runs sell out faster, with a longer time to reprint because FFG is probably used to thinking of product reprint cycles on the boardgame timeframe - which is much longer than the LCG timeframe.

Aye, I assumed it was something like that. My logic is that FFG got all of Sabretooth's left overs what? less than 10 years ago? They're probably slow to adapt to the increased demand and clients in an efficient way. That said, is it that hard to just make larger print runs? Or are they still afraid of taking the risk? Kind of makes me interested in seeing their financial reports. Kind Of.

You also might want to check ebay. I just purchased 'Prices of the Sun' and 'Queen of the Dragons' exspansions, both brand new, and both for a total of about 90 dollars (including shipping). This was from a seller called 'Celestialgames'…I have not worked with them before so I do not know personally how they are, but they have a good reputation on ebay, and are a valid online retailer.

There were still a couple editions left in stock with them today. Good luck in your pursuit of these games.

$90 for two $30 expansions? You get ripped off my friend. Should have waited for the month or two it will take for those to be in stores again.

They are good to work with, I got the Kings of the Storm in this week from them and Queen of Dragons is due in next week. I didn't mind the $90.00 myself either just because this is my only current hobby as I've stopped all mmo's, games, etc and am focusing on collecting all the GoT cards, and I wanted them now and didn't want to wait gui%C3%B1o.gif I hate waiting.
