Dealing with the wait, keeping things upbeat

By TylerTT, in Battlelore

I know a majority of the forum members are disappointed with the wait for new information and I am as well. but having been on the other side of this situation I'm feel a whole lot of sympathy for whats going on.

Large companies move slowly but have the resources to make products in a ways smaller companies could not. From the sounds of it BattleLore was something not even DOW could keep running. At this point I think we should all be very happy BL landed in the hands of FFG.

These large companies have a remarkable number of projects and they each move through it's body in stages. Some departments can get overworked and function as a bottle neck, this causes dates set by people earlier in the process to slip.

This leads to companies eventually not telling anyone outside the company any dates they can't guarantee, this works better in some markets then in others.

I was recently in this position with a game of my own. I let people know some dates I was given by the company I was working with, this lead to months of delay as parts of the project got bottlenecked. This invited the expectable response from the community I told about it.

It's not that anyone was even mean about it, while I was happy to know people were waiting for more information it's still fairly frustrating. To not only deal with a project's delay but also be disappointing people when you could have avoided the whole situation by just keeping your mouth shut in the first place.

While my experience was on a far smaller scale then this, i just want to try to keep this forum positive.

Good post. aplauso.gif

But still, as in other professions or relationships too, reliability is measured in "What did they say - and what followed then."

Why doesn't anyone official just post: "Sorry, we had a little delay, news will follow as soon as possible"? We all know, one can`t always keep his dates (is this expression correct?), but a little apology and/or an explanation often calms down the waves.

Of course dates and concrete projects would be welcome, but i would be perfectly happy with "hopefully release this spring" and general info about the future plans such as:

Will there be complete army-boxes?

Will there be generic campain-rules, or will we get some ready to play campaigns?

Will there be new loremasters, with new lore decks?

Etc, etc, something to tell us something about what direction FFG will take with Battlelore.

What is sad is that we can't even get that...other FFG employees post in the other forums and still we are left high and dry. Still the same old story as before, just different owners.

And if FFG wants to really support this product they had best do something soon. Pretty sad that after 6 months of owning the game and still NO news really on any front. And if it wasn't for Richard, we wouldn't hear a thing. Too bad there isn't a good email address to write to so we can organize some sort of campaign against this lack of news. Bad enough this poor excuse of a forum one can't even PM a person!!

I like the idea of this topic, thanks for giving us a counterweight.

As for the 6 month delay...this should be par for the course on any take-over. WotC took over Heroscape long ago and its been just as dry over in that game system. It just takes awhile to get things moving. The lack of news can be seen all over this sight (Tannhauser fans were just as pissed until a week ago). One product gets an update and all the other products feel neglected. DoW had this issue with M44 vs BL. Invariably, one section would whine that the other was getting all the press. Its a no-win situation so it doesn't surprise me that they would ignore it. I feel more confident that FFG will take the game in a better direction, but they might take their sweet time doing it. I'm completely fine with that as I'll wait for quality. I have other news sources to get my dose of new boardgame activity and I'm not going to sit around waiting for just one game to update. Diversify and be happy :-)

The "upbeat"problem here is the lack of any acknowledgement FFG gets it about BL. Again just a brief message they understand the flustration fans of this game feel & that things are on the way.FFG has had enough time to get a handle on BL & it just seems as each day passes without some information or response from FFG that the message becomes "We don't give a ****".

For months & months this lack of information went on at DoW & we went through the lets be postive phase, they are working on great stuff. We all know how that turned out sad.gif ,now FFG is starting the same crap.In January we could be postive but now to BL fans it just seems like the same old nothing we have been getting for the past 2 years.Really we are asking for just a little something & not evening getting that.

When FFG gives something to be postive & upbeat about then I'll be the first to kiss their feet but until then I & many others just feel ignored.

eh...

I tried,

off topic: any of you guys been checking out the new war of the ring minis game from games workshop? it uses the lord of the rings minis but aparently has much better rules and is biult for the mass combat we see in the movies. i'm looking forward to it. i'm possibly going to use the minis to build a 25mm battlelore set if the rules fall flat..

It gets better..We now have a Link to FFG New Upcoming & Reprints Page-many,many Games Listed BUT nothing of course On BattleLore. sorpresa.gif

It was a good effort. I agree completely. Personally, all I wanted for them to do is pop up to tell us when we can expect new goodies, which they did. Jason Steinhurst's article (on battlelore's main page) was more than enough for me. They told us expansions are in the works, that they're sorry for the delay, and that we can expect news this coming spring.

They haven't gone over their deadline yet. Let's give them some room.

Besides, every day that goes by makes us one day closer to a new release, no matter how far that date may be...

Yes nice item,HOWEVER that was on NOV 19,2008 neadless to say its now mid-February 2009 gran_risa.gif That morsal is long gone gone..FEED US!
