Which core set to buy? Original or the revised?

By Mordjinn, in Dust Warfare

I'm trying to figure out the hit which starting DW would cause to my wallet. Luckily I have a choice of buying either the original core set or the revised one (100 euros / 70 euros). I understand that the original box is much more value for money and I'm leaning towards it. Then again in one battle report I saw the medium walkers just stood and shot instead of moving and that was just silly. I would prefer them to be more than just stationary gun platforms. I also dislike the stupid looking Allies medium walkers in the original core box.

1.How many points worth of armies are there in the core boxes?
2. Which core set has more balanced army in it for testing out Dust Warfare right out of the box?
3. What are your recommendations on expanding either boxes? I could imagine something like 200-300 points might be a good game size for us.

And also which box is better for playing Dust Tactics? Might be fun to test that game too…

Obvious answer is to get both, but you will be better off getting the original as these are no longer in production and the only way to get the two heroes and is far better value. It's also the best one for playing dust tactics, If you are getting just the one set there is really no choice - original.

Luckly i've found both, perfect for starting tactics AND warfare….

To the OP, I have both boxes. The original is a better value. You get 4 of the Medium Walkers, plus, I think 16 infantry for each faction.

I have both. Buy the original while you still can. Bazooka Joe is very good at 15 points, and Laser Grenadiers need Sigrid to be effective in DW in my experience. Games I've paired her with them, they are MVP squad, games without her I rarely get their point value back before they die. The medium walkers push this further over the top. You can always get the revised core later. Going the other way, you may come back for the original core, only to find it unavailable. I'm really kicking my self I didn't buy it in Premium while I had the chance.

Both for sure, but if only one then you're personal style might dictate. Original box is more of a 'real world' army feel where the revised set is more supernatural.

Thanks a lot for taking the time and effort to answer. I'm happy to hear that the original core set is better to start with as if I end up disliking both Tactics and Warfare (which I highly doubt) then I guess I can always just paint the models quickly and get my money back. And it does make sense to get the original box now as I can always get the revised box later if I feel that something is missing.

Thanks guys. My wallet is screaming mercy, but from your words I can't really hear it :)

Yes I have both as well, get the original for sure.

You get the gaming tiles, more dice, loads of minis, 4 walkers and a copy of the first comic as well, plus like you mention the new one will be around for a while yet but the original is hard to get hold of.
