Joust?

By megajenius, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hey guys,

Long time A Game of Thrones CCG fan years ago, completely new to the LCG. Just ordered my core set. Looking through the sets and it's great to have so many new cards and a way nicer way of collecting them.

But where the hell do I find out what all the keywords do? Why is there no rules that mention "joust" or "melee" anywhere? I've read every PDF I could download from the main FFG site and no mention of the keyword joust or melee. Except on cards. I find it really strange.

Does it tie into the old "Jousting" rules or is something completely new?

Anyway if someone could clear that up for me, I would be very grateful! I've been able to find descriptions of Renown, Stealth etc.(no changes), and then the new keywords Vengeful etc. (all seem cool), I even found the rules for Shadow, which is all new. But where are the rules for Joust/Melee? 0_0

Joust – If a character with the Joust keyword is attacking alone, the defending player may declare only one character to defend the challenge.

Melee – While participating in a challenge, a character with the Melee keyword gets +1 STR for each character participating on the opposing side of a challenge.

Welcome back to the game!

Perfect! Thanks a million for that.

I had a feeling that Joust was that, just because that would make the most sense. =)

That list is a great reference as well, so thanks for that. They were literally the only two keywords I couldn't track down. ;)

controlled by an opponent

So, for example, in a 4-player game, if Player A's attacker has Melee, Player B defends with 1 character, and Player C jumps in 1 character (Greatjon, Horseback Archers, etc.) as an attacker, wouldn't the attacker get +2 STR for the 2 characters controlled by opponents, not just +1 STR for the single defender?

I could be wrong, but I thought it was "controlled by an opponent," not just "on the other side of the challenge".

Not entirely true. I haven't got the insert in front of me, but isn't the definition of Melee "While participating in a challenge, characters with the Melee keyword get +1 STR for each participating character controlled by an opponent "?

You are correct. Actual rules text is:

Melee: "When a character with the melee keyword is participating in a challenge, it gets +1 STR for each participating character controlled by an opponent."

Yep.

I didn't read everything as I copied and pasted it. I thought it was correct as a reference.
