as foes… anyone done it? have any ideas to implement them?
Dreadnoughts
I used one against my Death Watch group, they only survived because I allowed Smite to work on it.
So make sure your group has the right weapon or some other way of destroying it.
What gear does your group have, and what weapons are you planning giving to the Dreadnought?
well were just starting out but im thinking more down the road
Are you looking to use Dreadnoughts as allies, enemies or having one of your CSM characters be put into a Dreadnought? Either way I think that Rites of Battle would give you the basic stuff for vehicles to enable you to field Dreadnoughts, and probably the direct rules for a Dreadnought as well.
more the first two options… if someone where to get that well mangled… I dunno if they'd want to be stuck in a dreadnought.
As was said, rites of battle for deathwatch has rules for playing as dreadnoughts and has NPC stats for both regular and siege dreads and assorted weapon configurations for them. A lot of them won't make sense for a CSM dread, but it's easy enough to use the stats as a baseline and change the descriptions.
Rites of Battle has stats for Chaos Dreads
As far as me and my group have fought against dreads in Deathwatch, they seem really weak. Especially the ranged ones, since you can quite easily just outshoot them if you have a lascannon. We just generally felt that the dreads were missing a certain oomph to them.
But thats of course if you are running a group of quite high rank Space Marines.
Also, I don't see why you wouldn't allow Smite to be used on a Dread just because the description talks about "Smite must be targeted at a single creature". I think the wording is like that on many of the core rulebook powers just because they weren't really counting on fighting vehicles, since the core book doesn't really have any.

Isn't that what lascannons are *for*? I'm not sure an enemy counts as weak if it can be destroyed with a weapon that is specifically designed to destroy it. If they went down to Heavy Bolter fire they'd be weak.
Besides how often do your characters lug around a Lascannon? my party is 4 space marines and none of them are found of heavy weapons.
and by found I mean fond.

I love lascannons. Huge damage… and easily rechargeable.
In a twist of irony a new player to our group just requisitioned a Lascannon… I immediately went outside killed a crow and ate it.
Someone should make a Race or Archetype for this.
Actually… I suspect we'll get an Undivided book someday, with rules for Obliterators, Dreads, and Demon Princes. Hellbrutes and Marauders, too.

Can't imagine there was much left to eat after the lascannon was through with it.
Propably just two smoky legs on a fence.
