Killed vs. Saved

By Prof_werewolf, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hey guys, just a quick question regarding effects that go off when a character is killed. Using 'No Use for Grief' as an example, can a player still utilize this event if they save the Red Viper by discarding a duplicate?

Thanks!

No. If the Red Viper is saved, he isn't killed so the event's requirement isn't met.

Saves and Cancels happen during the same timing window, and they are treated the same way. The leaving play being saved from, or the effect being canceled are considered not to have happened, and thus cannot be responded to.

Awesome, guys. This is what I originally thought but there was some disagreement during my last game. I really just wanted to get it in writing. Thanks!

Narrow escape as an example however is not considered a save or a cancel. So you could still play no use for grief then play Narrow Escape.
