Uncertainties after first game

By CarlWalmsley, in Dust Warfare

Last night, some friends and I had fun with our first game of Dust Warefare. A few things came up, which the well-informed on this site might be able to help with.

Can a unit which has taken both of its actions in the Unit Phase have a Reaction later in the turn? If not, should all units that have taken both actions be given a Reaction token (even if they did not React) to show that they are effectively 'inert' for the rest of the turn?

Can an Artillery Strike be called down so that it targets one unit to which the initiating unit has Line of Sight - and a second unit that is within 6 inches but out of LOS? Or do you need LOS to both units you wish to target?

Even with the inievitable teething-issues of trying out a new system, we had fun and will definitely be playing again. I really hope this game continues to gather momentum. Something has to halt GW's annual price increases!

1) Yes. This is one of the advantages to having initiative.

2) Only the Combat Platoon's Long Tom can attack 2 units with one weapon. I believe from the wording that only one unit has to be within LOS. If you're doing this with the Petard Mortar and the Rockets from Steel Rain, then both targets would have to be within LOS (but they wouldn't have to be within 6" of each other.)

Thanks, that clears things up. Winning Initiative becomes very useful - and, at the same time, removes the incentive to activate units in your Command Phase (thereby robbing them a potential third, Reaction action later in the turn).

It was, indeed, the Combat Platoon's long tom ability.

Thanks again.

I thought if you had used both actions you could use a reaction? I re-read the rules and I suppose it could work the other way, but when you activate a unit it has to use all its actions and you must activate all your units on your turn, meaning you shouldnt be able to take a reaction later on, but I guess I am wrong. I think that is how it was meant to work, but if it isnt clearly written that way I suppose I could be wrong.

If I am, this is another rule of Dust Warfare I do not like!

They actually put out in the FAQ as long as you don't have suppression and/or a Reaction marker, you can still react if a unit used both of its actions already.

Actions in the unit phase and re-actions are 2 different and independent things.

Hmmm. Well I dont like that LOL. Oh well. Ill deal with it by losing the initiative roll and going first every round!

It balances out. Sure you go first, but you get less command actions. Second player gets more command actions, allowing them to suppress the units he needs to without worrying about a reaction, so that there are less chances for the first player to react in the second players unit phase. I love the interaction of both phases and how they allowed an extremely minute advantage to the player going first.
