American weapons, some concerns

By Zombiejoe, in Dust Warfare

As I continue to play this game, there are two things that bother me about the American weapons. One, the MG is pitiful against armor 3. This doesn't seem right, I don't know how you all feel, but when I play against germans, I tend to see a lot more armor 3. Why is it so…meh?

The phasers scare me. They seem really powerful. How has everyone's exp been with them? super broke or does it work out somehow? Like the way the laserwerfers seem really unimpressive but in almost every game, they single handly taken down walkers for me.

Just look for some dialogue :D CHeers

Keep playing, you'll learn to downplay your opponents strengths and use yours. lasers are short range and phasers still allow cover.

The laser weapons that can hit the larger walkers have 16" range, so not that short. The Heavy Laser Grenadiers are a nasty opponent. A squad of 2 did 8 damage to my Steel Rain last night - would have been enough damage to kill 2 of them! And all of that was outisde of reaction range.

I had my butt handed to me with phasers, but Im hoping to learn from that and see what others are doing, I think I may need to play more conservatively with the germans and let them come to me, am also trying to figure out what mission parameters might help me with my game when playing a certain force maybe this thread is the perfect think for that thanks for starting it….

… thats not typical dmg… and the ranger mirror in the allies army can move 12 and cause just as much dmg to walkers.

The Red Devils are the only american infantry with Phasers, but they don't move 12 inch.

The move 6 inch and have airdrop.

My point was that they are not "short range". My opponent was able to do this without me being able to react.

what you will find with experience is that most allied units are vs specilist.

Phasers are tastey due to ignoring armor, yet find it difficult to fight unsupported due to air dropping or being on a light walker.

As for allied infantary being average-rubbish vs walkers - that is the axis advantage. Their infantary can do reasonably well vs any walker, the allies do not so much, yet they tend to have UGL's.

Well it's good to know it all balances out well enough.

The phasers are only range 12? if that is right then there's the balancer.

indeed my undead friend - british paras are astoundingly hard to use due to 12 inch from foe deployment. Phasers ignore armor, sure, but dont put out as many dice as youd want, and cannot soak fire particually well being a tier 3 non jump non damage resilence unit. The fact is they are good vs tier 3 and some tanks, yet suffer from a lack of support and range. Pro-tip - couple them with air-dropped recon rangers.

Inb4 - double shots with a sustained action & hurp derp but phazors rule

The infantry phaser unit does seem to be the suicide unit. Unless you are bring a bunch of models onto your enemies front door with scout or airdrop, then I don't see them living long. That being said, drop them on a unit of lazerwereferse to protect your 100 point heavy walker, is probably not a bad play.
