3 Gate Questions

By Unspeakable, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I just started playing Arkham Horror and am loving it. 3 questions game up during game play that I've been unable to find answers for.

1. Can a clue token be placed on a location with an open gate?

2. When an investigator moves onto a location with an open gate that also has a monster on it does he fight that monster before entering the other world or after he returns from the other world?

3. When a second gate appears on a location that already has a gate does the first gate remain or is it replaced?

1. I'm pretty sure it's a no on this one (gate openings remove already existing clue tokens so placing new ones on gates seem strange).

2. Fighting monters are done in the movement phase and entering otherworlds in the arkham encounter phase. Therefor you have to fight (or evade) monters on a gate before you enter an otherworld.
The same goes for exiting through a gate during the movement phase. HOWEVER you get a free evade when exiting a gate. So you can choose to ignore any monster on the gate during the turn you exit (you can still choose to fight them). In your next movement phase you must Evade them or fight them as usual though.

3. When this happens no new gates are opened and no doom token is added. The existing gate remains in play and a monster surge occur, that is a monster appear on every open gate (more if there are fewer gates than investigators). (I think the words monster surge never occured in the core rules.)

This is great. Thanks! I knew there was a monster surge but didn't know if two gates continued to exist at a single location. Now I know. Thanks.

Yeah, that's in the core rules, pag 10: "Place a Clue token on the indicated location unless there is an open gate there"

To be more precise:

2. When you return to Arkham, you receive a free pass. This means you can ignore all the monsters on the gate, fight all of them, or cherry-pick the ones you would like to fight and ignore the others

3. Whenever a monster surge happens, remember to distribute the monsters as evenly as possible between all the open gates. And yes, monster surge is defined in the core rules on pag. 9
