Soul or body - you choose which

By Gurkhal, in Dark Heresy

I enjoyed the little scenarios presented and our arguing a while back and so thought that I would try to ressurection that little thing and hopefully make it into a tradition for our forum, if there's interest for it. happy.gif

You are an Inquisitor who have arrived to oversee a purge of a genestealer infestation before it can attract a Splinter Fleet to the planet which has no chance to even slow down a full scale Tyranid invasion. But on site your investigation concludes to you that you can't hope to purge the genestealer cult before the Splinter Fleet has zoomed in on the planet, but there is another point of interesting fact. A heretical warp-tainted cult has come into conflict with the genestealers and you are sure that if you provide them with assistance they could destroy the genestealers fast enough to prevent the Splinter Fleet from directing itself against the world but giving aid to the heretics would make them alot stronger and in turn threaten the world instead of the Great Devourer.

What do you do?

Now when I look at it, it turns on me that it was a pretty bad scenario. I'll be back in the future with a better one.

I'm taking this Gurkhal.

Because I'm so devious, I convince the Chaos Cult that I'll back them. I make a show of backing them, but am actually working against them. It is already too late for this world either way, so I will maximise my results by having the chaos cult fight the genestealers, but I will undermine the cult so they don't prevail. Eventually the genestealers will summon the hive fleet. I use this time to weaken the chaos cult as much as possible to prevent as many as possible from escaping. I then allow the tyrannid invasion to reach full swing and commit maximum reasources to the invasion before engaging exterminatus, and therefore doing as much damage as possible to both the cult and the hive fleet.

Maximum results fron a sh*tty situation. But then I'm just a lowly Interrogator.

Interrogator Z.

My solution is similar to Zakalwe with one twist: I would arrange to station Major naval forces hidden in the outlying portions of the system. When the Cult loses a Hive ship will arrive to complete Biomass absorption. At this point The pre-stationed Naval forces ambush said Hive ship and destroy it thus preventing Tyranid incursion for some time thereafter. At this point it may even be possible to retake this world from the bugs! cool.gif

BTW Gurkhal: That wasn't such a bad scenario! happy.gif I woulds also urge all of us who have been participating to come up with our own scenarios!

Thanks guys. :) I'd love to take a look at a scenario one of put up.

For myself I would probably decide that the Tyranids are the greater foe and then, regrettfully, give aid to the Chaos cult to destroy the genestealers before I turn on the heretics. Naturally I would need to do penance for this and purge every single one of my agents who were involved in the operation to aid the Chaos cult but that's side-track from the main thing which is to save a world of the Emperor's domain.

There would probably be alot of penace for me to do but I shall take it upon me.

I would carve "Dakboom wuz'ere" using a pdf man-portable las-cannon into an inorganic surface that way after the exterminus and an explorator fleet came by (like a century later) they'd see the dead planet (and my crafty work) and think that it was I dakboom that destroyed this once imperial held planet, increasing my infamy amongst the imperials and notoriety among the Orks!

(This is assuming one of you inqizitors drop the exterminus bomb on this place)

I might come back every decade or so to spruse up the graffiti, wouldn't want it to become illegible.

Actually this is a great scenario as it gives the players a moral choice that they have to make. Its also a potential 'no win' situation which is always challenging and fun.

I love the idea of aiding Chaos, because a sufficiently compelling member would be the perfect tool to plant the seed of radicalism in the lowly members. I would ensure that proper forces arrive in time to halt the chaos insurrection, and then have the world flourish. This would show that evil, tempered by good intentions, could in fact yield good.
