Final:

Helmut H. (Ratatoskr) - Greyjoy - The Maester's Path wins vs. Matthieu M. - Targaryen - The Maester's Path

The final was the most epic game ever. Had 33 (!) power on the house card before the last chain came off. The most insane, nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat game I've ever played.

House/Agenda breakdown:

Lannister:4 (2x PbtT, 1x TMP, 1x CoS) - overall placement 3rd, 9th, 11th, 14th.

Targaryen: 3 (2x TMP, 1x KotHH) - overall placement 2nd, 4th, 6th.

Stark: 3 (1x nA, 1x KotR, 1x SoW) - overall placement 5th, 6th, 12th.

Greyjoy: 2 (1x TMP, 1x nA) - overall placement 1st, 15th.

Baratheon: 2 (1x Treaty North, 1x KotR) - overall placement 8th, 16th.

Martell: 2 (1x KotHH, 1x KoS) - overall placement 10th, 13th.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Maester's Path: 4 (2x Targ, 1x GJ, 1x Lanni) - overall placement 1st, 2nd, 6th, 11th.

The Power Behind the Throne: 2 (2x Lanni) - overall placement 3rd, 9th.

Knights of the Hollow Hill: 2 (1x Targ, 1x Martell) - overall placement 4th, 10th.

No Agenda: 2 (1x Stark, 1x Greyjoy) - overall placement 5th, 15th.

Knights of the Realm: 2 (1x Stark, 1x Bara) - overall placement 6th, 16th.

Treaty with the North: 1 (Bara) - overall placement 8th.

The Siege of Winterfell: 1 (Stark) - overall placement 12th.

Kings of Summer: 1 (Martell) - overall placement 13th.

City of Shadows: 1 (Lanni) - overall placement 14th.

Congrats from Canada mate!

Awesome! Thanks for the breakdown!

Grats Helmut! You're a true student of the game and it keeps paying off for you. Looking foward to the deck list and in-depth tourney report :)

Interesting…I've been thinking more and more about the GJ vs. Targ match up. Traditionally, "burn" has been a weakness of GJ, given saves, etc. However, GJ's biggest strength these days (I think) are it's locations and, to a lesser extent, the cancels.

The ability to cancel key effects, such as The Hatchling's Feast and certain character responses, and the fact that most Maester Targ decks run little to no location removal means that Targ can have an incredibly tough time.

I'm personally unsure - I just haven't played the match up enough - to know whether winter GJ or maester GJ is the harder match up for Targ. I suspect maester GJ may be slightly harder, given the added card advantage with chains, but then maesters are inherently somewhat vulnerable to burn. In fact, it sounds like that's exactly what happened in the final…GJ kept winning challenges but couldn't keep a maester in play long enough to pull chains off the agenda.

Anyway, thanks for the breakdown. I hope at some point we'll see a list of the GJ deck. I'm working on my own version at the moment, but GJ has never been my forte. The matchup is also about to get MUCH harder for GJ, given the new burn cards that Targ received in the most recent chapter pack.

Thanks for the kind words everybody!

I do intend to write up a short tourney report, but I don't know when I'll get to it. I'll post the decklist, though. While I will attend two more Regionals this season, I doubt I'll bring this deck. It deserves to be retired with honour ;)

I don't really have time to comment on the decklist in depth right now. I call it a GJ Toolbox deck. It has Winter, but it's not a Winter deck, It has Maesters, but it's not really a Maester deck. It has some deck discard, but it's not a Mill deck. It has choke (a little), but it's certainly not a choke deck. Save/Cancel might be described as its main theme, althiugh there's probably less of that than in a dedicated cancelfest deck. I guess in some ways it's not unlike the GJ deck that was built on 2C1C a while back.

The big strength of the deck is its versatility. It has answers to pretty much everything. Although I have lost some games pretty badly (especially on OCTGN), and I did worry at times if'd diluted it too much, it has performed pretty well overall.

So here's the list. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask.
