unchallanged stories

Ahoy!

New into this game, and one thing I`m a bit unsure about. At the unchallanged stories it says "If the active player succeds a story, and the total skill of his opponent was zero (or less), the story is considered unchallanged, and the active player may place an additional success token on the story card."

This means that in the beggining of the challange or the end of it? Cause if I lets say defending with two cards wint X skill points >0, but one goes insane, the other dies because of the damage, there is no skill points left on the defending site. Does that means the story challange is onopposed? There was at least a character with at least 1 skill point in that round, in that story, but died/went insane. does the +1 succes token goes into the story or not?

IT is at the end. Each story is resolved in order, and then the skill check is made and you only ever compare the existing/current skill of all characters committed to the story. If no one is committed on the other side, for any reason, then they have 0 skill to apply so it is considered unchallenged.

Fortunately, this is covered in detail on Page 9 of the rulebook, under Resolving a Story Card. You'll see the 5th step is "Determine Success". Following onto page 10, under "Determine Success" you'll read:

"After the four icon struggles, the active player determines if he has been successful at the story."

This establishes the timing for us - do the 4 struggles, then check for success. If the active player is unchallenged, then an additional token can be scored. (Also covered on page 10.)

Welcome to the game! There are many people here who are happy to answer whatever questions you may have as you learn!

Thank you all :)

I hoped for my solution, but it seems i need more practice to win the game XD Shub Niggurath and his followers are very hard to defeat, unfortunately.

Thanks for the quick answers, I like this game so far.
