New super heavy tank units

By Guest, in Dust Warfare

I have been a hobbyist and wargamer for the last 15 years and I am now focussing solely on playing star wars minis (which I play on the tabletop with custom rules… I have a ridiculous amount of star wars minis, lol) and dust tactics/warfare, which in a very short time using mostly funds earned from selling warhammer and 40k armies, I have built up almost 400 points of Allies and 400 points of axis. Since I have completely abandoned GW and their games and have sold or are selling almost all of my warhammer and 40k armies (including the 4 for LOTR I had 16 of them!), I have thought of a reason to keep at least a couple pieces from my 15 year collection… my 2 Imperial guard super heavy tanks. So after some quick modifications (mainly ditching the twin heavy bolters out for autocannons as heavy bolters don't fit the look at all) I have come up with an idea on how to use my baneblade for an allied tank, the M27 Pershing "Black Jack" heavy tank and my Shadowsword as the axis Krupp Landkreuzer P.2000 Ratte. (The names were just one-upped versions of real heavy tanks/prototypes from ww2…lazy, I know…)

  • 90mm M3 cannon
  • coaxially mounted 7.62 Browning MG

What do you guys think? I'm thinking somewhere around around 100 points each with maybe 6" move and armour 7?

Good idea or complete rubbish?

The format looked good on my screen then published all messed up… tried to fix it in edit.

I'm not trying to discourage you anything but the stats look very similar to heavy walkers that are already in the game. And I think your going a bit overboard on the guns. But please continue, maybe try making the stats in Excel and taking a screen cap that way the formatting will stop getting messed up.

Good tip on making a spreadsheet… thanks.

I purposely tried to make them similar to the heavy armour 7 vehicles that are already in the game, that way balance doesn't get all screwed up too much. I really want tracked tank vehicles in the game though. The dust universe has the advanced tech walkers alongside "normal" tanks and vehicles, etc. Is the main concern just that there is already armour 7 vehicles in the game? I have those already and quite franky only like the look of 1 out the 2 variants in both kits, and as I mentioned, I think the game looks better on the table with tracked tank vehicles alongside the advanced tech walkers. It makes the walkers look a lot cooler when they are beside the more mundane in my opinion.

Is it all the guns that you think I went over the top on, or just certain ones? The nazis had a Landkreuzer P.1000 (that looked an aweful lot like the shadowsword super heavy GW model) which never really got off the ground and they experimented with 150mm guns on their maus heavy tanks towards the end of the war. The Americans also had an M26 Pershing heavy tank in use as well and I just tried to imagine what they could be like a few years later when the war kept going and then factored in that there was advanced alien tech going around…

Is it just that they are tracked land based tanks and not walkers? That they are not official kits?

Should I just use model kits of real ww2 tanks in 1/48 scale if I want normal land based tanks in the game? Then how do I rate those, stat wise if I don't make them similar to what is already in the game without just making up stats out of a hat and screwing with all the game balance?

I am actually on the verge of being bored at only looking at walker to be honest and I have multiple light, medium and heavy walkers for both factions already (I'm not collecting SSU until the line is fully released and up to par with allies and axis).

Any other comments?

The idea is sound and the amount of weapons are fine, but you need to refer to the rulebook for the correct weapon stats. You have the 90mm as worse than the pounder - should be better.

Thanks for that… I started to go all blind making the stats at 1 AM. After seeing this number slash that number 50 times then going back and changing them then changing names and starting again, etc, I think I got myself all mixed around, lol. I am going to fix up the profiles and complete them, put them in a game and report back as to whether they work out or not.

A shadowsword might be a bit big for the heavies in this game. The axis heavy walker is smaller than a land raider… but i had a similar thought but it was more along the lines of buying a set of bases and making an Imperial Fists "allies" army with dreads and contemptors as the walkers.
