Double 'Spray' Symbols in Weapons stat lines.

By harikaridog, in Dust Warfare

Sorry if this is already covered, but what does the inclusion of 'two' spray symbols (i'll use * to represent this symbol) represent in the DW weapon stat lines.

I fully understand what */1 and */2 represent…but not **/1 . My interpretation is that you roll 2 dice to hit per miniature …each hit inflicting 1 point of damage?

If this is the case not sure it is made clear in the rules as written…but could be wrong happy.gif

You interpret it correctly - 2 dice per miniature.

Yes, that's how I saw it as well. But a clear definition somewhere would have been a good idea.Forcing your players to interpret rules is as good a way of inducing arguments as I know.

preocupado.gif have to say, a little disgruntled about the quality of the proofreading and editting

Every time I pick up the book I find another error, latest is the 4.2" rockets where it states that they are one use and impossible to load in battle - and then they give it Reload preocupado.gif Gotta love these last minute changes .

Its actually a case of user error here. pg 59, explains spray weapons in full detail, including what double symbols means.

read the written rules on pg 59, under the heading "spray weapons".

Except for the fact that the nebelwerfer doesn't have "flame symbol/2," it has "2 flame symbols/1" for infantry armor 1-3.

Hi Azrell I think if you look at the rules on P.59 you will see that Harikaridog is correct and that the specific example of 2 x Spray Symbols is not covered,, yes it explains a situation of Spray/2 but not the former

yes was a bit worried that I had made a 'user error' here, but clearly not

i guess Azells response here shows that this omission will confuse people…….. still it can be fixed with an errata happy.gif

and now we play the waiting game.

"Flamethrower and other spray weapons project a fiery torrent of ignited fuel that engulfs everything in its path otherwise cover an area with an attack. Spray weapons have a * in the weapon profile in place of a number . These weapons roll a number of combat dice equal to the number of miniatures in the target unit, dealing damage for each (hit symbol) as normal. A weapon with a */2, for instance rolls on combat dice for each miniatures in the target unit, dealing two damage for each (hit symbol)." pg 58

Now calling back to my extensive education i use a simple technique learned in kindergarten, when the teacher held up an object in one hand and a duplicate object in the other and asked how many of said object she had the class responded: two.

The symbol replaces the number, ergo when there are 2 symbols its 2. Its not overly complicated.

100% agreed with the Caveat that while logical, it is not explicitly explained as such, and 1 sentence could have taken it from, "not overly complicated" to, "Crystal Clear." gran_risa.gif

Rules should be written to be exclusive, which means that if the rule doesn't specifically say it, it's not legal. Actual law is supposed to be written this way, as a matter of interest; naturally, there are loopholes and omissions, which leads to people who find a loathsome occupation exploiting said loopholes, etc. It also leads to similar folks in gaming…

Hmm.. I believe I came to the right interpretation in my original post, but just asked for confirmation as despite what you say the rule is I think not well explained. Still, glad to see that not only did you learn to count in kindergarten, but you also mastered sarcasm gui%C3%B1o.gif
