Two Rules Questions

By imrahil327, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

*I have Pyatt Pree who goes on an Intrigue challenge and wins, but my opponent plays Red Vengeance. What is the outcome? The confusing part is Red Vengeance stating that it 'cancels the claim effect' (which should be Pyatt's text). I could see three possible outcomes:

1. I still have to kill someone via Pyatt Pree

2. Pyatt's claim effect is canceled and I have to lose a card like a normal intrigue challenge

3. Nothing happens because Pyatt Pree kicks in, but I can't kill "my opponent's character"

*Harried By Dragons: Can its response only be triggered when it is marshaled, not ambushed?

*Sigh* **** edit function. In case you overlooked it in my above reply, my answer to #1 was "Asked and answered here ." gui%C3%B1o.gif

Ktom's answer confuses me a little- is it #1 above (I kill one of my characters) even though the claim effect is canceled?

~yeah, ktom's answers can do that sometimes.

I'll quote the conclusion:

"In short: Red Vengeance specifies that the claim of "that challenge" is resolved. The claim of "that challenge" includes any modification to how claim is resolved applied to that point."

Even shorter: Yeah, it's #1.

RV doesn't cancel Pyat Pree. It doesn't interact with PP at all.

Look at it this way:

You win an INT challenge in which Pyat Pree attacked alone. Claim effect is changed from "Discard X cards from losing opponent's hand" to "choose and kill 1 character controlled by the losing opponent" due to Pyat Pree's ability.

Framework event "Challenge result is implemented" (i.e. the step when claim happens) is initiated.

RV is played. Said framework event is cancelled. Opponent to fulfill claim effect instead is chosen. Essentially, the player who played RV says "Nahnahnahnahnah, I don't fulfill Claim. YOU fulfill claim instead". PP's replacement effect is unaffected by this. It has already asserted itself.

Framework event resolves. Claim happens. The winner of the challenge chooses and kills 1 character controlled by the player that was chosen due to RV (in joust games this will always be himself).

Good to know. Thanks, ser!
