House Bolton?

By TheBlackStones, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I've just started to get back into the Games of Thrones card game again when I learned it turned from a CCG to LCG (I played a LONG time ago, and it's been fun getting back in) and I'm building a fun little Stark deck that somewhat revolves around House Bolton and being able to pump out lots of characters and create good card draw. I don't plan on playing any tournaments really, and I like what I've put together (still working out some kinks though) but what I'm wondering if we're going to see any more House Bolton stuff pop up for the Starks sooner or later? After the Brotherhood Without Banners line came out, there's been 1 character since then and definitely not something I wanted for the deck.

The Kindly Man is definitely a step in the right direction (If my house bolton stuff gets killed off, get them back in and card draw from it? Yes please!) but I would love some more stuff with the actual House Bolton trait and things that took advantage of character swapping. I think it's a really fun idea and I liked building a deck around it.

Unfortunately, there's unlikely to be much more House Bolton in the future. While we all want FFG to flush out existing themes, the current designers seem more interested in creating new themes for each cycle and then dropping them for new themes the next cycle. Only shadows and seasons have had much continued support in later cycles.

I dunno, GJ mill seems like a subtheme similar to the Stark's boltons, and it's gotten cards here and there.

You are confusing theme with mechanics.

Meh, I guess. It seems like Boltons include a 'mechanic' too, in their switching.

Why wouldn't there be more Bolton cards? The current CP cycle is focused on ADwD characters and many significant Stark characters in the book are Boltons and their allies.

I could see more cards that play off switching sides but I don't see the design space being there for more generic Boltons.

Well, I hope they don't completely abandon giving more Bolton stuff. I think with a couple more cards in the mix, could be a real fun deck that would give some trouble to opponents. Probably won't ever be a tournament winning thing, but against friends it's super fun.

lol. That is a ridiculous statement. Traited cards come and go. When a set focuses on them everyone gets excited, except those people who wanted some other trait focused on. Hell if I were Damon I'd just create cards with no traits at all or with every trait and no game text. Since apparently he can't win for trying.

Not everyone WANTS to play a bolton deck in Stark. They only get half a dozen or a little more characters in a cycle to begin with that means if they were to try and support previous themes, you'd get 1 lady, 1 lord, 1 tully, 1 bolton, 1 knight, 1 night's watch, and 1 direwolf. Some of that could be doubled up, but not much of it.

Or, they can do what they have been doing, creating new cards that follow the Houses main mechanics, fills in a whole here or there, and then tosses in one or two additional traited cards, and every cycle, pick another existing trait or two to include.

Given the choice I would take this every single day and twice on Sunday.

There probably will be more House Bolton cards. Whether they support the "House Bolton" mechanic or not, I'm not sure.

See Dreadfort Outrider. It is relatively recent so I think they will try and add more to the trait. While it does not strictly support the control switching stuff, it is instead giving an incentive to retain control of at least one House Bolton characters.

I'm not trying to give a rating or opinion of that card, but am presenting an argument that may demonstrate that they are most likely going to continue creating House Bolton cards.

Lets consider some of the current Stark cards released. Two cards temporarily remove control of cards from their owner and one that operates under a currently unused Traitor mechanic. This already is starting to sound Boltonish.

Add in a host of new cards that have multiple house affiliations which fit in with other past Bolton cards. Also At the Palace of Sorrows is a pretty beefy card to use with the Bolton's.

I'm building a traitless deck, but so far I only have 1 character in it.

Hahahah!
