Being the first player(first time game)

By TheBossInTheWall, in Blood Bowl: Team Manager

I played my first and only game so far of Blood Bowl: Team Manager yesterday. We were four played and played 5 rounds. I wasn't teaching the game and was not familiar with the rules. My impression of the game was that being the first player a very large negative that comes close to ruining the game for whomever is the very first player. I realize the first player passes to the left each round, but since there are five rounds being the first player once again really hurts a players chances to do well when compared with the other players.

Is this a correct experience? Anyone wish to comment on this?(Keep in mind it was my only play of the game)

That handicap is mitigated by the best choice of rewards he will surely take. The first player will get star player and the last player will probably get a fan. However, I agree that the first player is somewhat handicapped, but hey… Someone has to go first after all :)

I had a question about choosing teams. When you choose teams, can they be of the same subdivision?? In the diagram for a 4 player game, it shows two OWA's players and two CWC players sitting next to each other. I'm not sure if that is a subtle hint or just an " off" diagram.

In my first game (it was a 2 player game), I chose an CWC team and my friend chose an OWA, just to avoid the situation mentioned above. Also, can you choose a highlight zone on your opponents side? It could work, but it seems awkward to me. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Nah, it doesnt matter in any way.

And yeah, you can choose just about any side of the highlight.

Cool, So if my opponents and I all choose CWC division teams, we'd just ready the one CWC star player pile and disregard the OWA star player pile? If that were the case, it would be one pile right? splitting it into two seems like one "manager side" would have a potential advantage…or maybe I'm being to analytical. lol lengua.gif

Thanks for the feedback.

Just got Team Manager, and have played about 4 games so far (3x 2 player, and 1x 4 player). Wow, it's a great game…

I have to say, as much of a disadvantage as it CAN be to go first when it comes to everyone playing their final cards, i feel it's almost mitigated by the fact that you get first choice on the Highlight reel. In larger games, even your second turn often nets another good highlight reel option too!
Thing is, if you go last, you HAVE to really make the fact that you get the last play count, because you WON'T be getting the best highlight reel choices, therefore you really have to make those last player choices matter a LOT.
