Hans' Grenatwerfer Question

By Shadow4ce, in Dust Warfare

I see where the Grenatwerfer has the Special Weapons Rule, Indirect Fire , which should give it a minimum range of 12" and a maximum range of 36" when fired directly, or unlimited if called in indirectly by radio. However, the Hans' weapon line gives its range as 16 instead of A .

Which way are you folks playing it? We're playing it as a normal indirect fire weapon, as a 12-16" range has a very limited window of effectivenes, being a 4" ring 12" out from the Hans'front arc. I guess it could be played without a minimum range when direct fired, but with a minimum and no maximum when used indirectly?

Did I miss a special rule somewhere clarifying the Hans? Any previous thread cover this?

either it can be fired indirectly as part of a sustained action to allow it to fire like an indirect weapon. When fired directly, you just use its 16 inch range.

The weapon entry simply states you can fire it indirectly if you so desire, so that would use all the usual indirect rules for distances (i.e past 12 inches, up to any distance you desire). Otherwise it functions like any other 16 inch range weapon, there is no minimum diststance when used normally.

I was about to reply, "Makes sense, but where does it say that?" then I reread (for about the 10th time) the Granatwerfer indirect Fire rule on page 111, and for the first time a couple of very important words popped out (my emphasis below in bold italics)…

Indirect Fire : A Granatwerfer may be fired using Indirect Fire as if it were an Artillary weapon (see page 57).

Previous readings I focussed on, "Artillary weapon" and turned to page 57, without giving the rest of the rule much thought.

Not sure how I missed it, and jumped to the conclusion it was an Artillary weapon, not was capable of being used as such, and was expecting a 36" range on a Grenade Thrower, lol. At my age, I'll just call it I didn't have my reading glasses.

Thanks for the quick, accurate answer caecitas!

its what i do. If it helps, I have have my glasses on me either, they just get in the bloody way.

I often come up against a Hans, they come highly recomended by my core players.
