Qucik NPC fight

By coolzyg, in Black Crusade

Hello fellow Heretics!

I want to ask you If you are using some way to make NPC fights quicker. I'm gonna give my players some CSM to command let's say 10. But If they have larger squad then there must be more enemies let's say they meet 10 SM. So it's impossible to roll WS/BS/Doge/Parry/dmg/critical for 20 guys every round. So I think about quicker way to handle combat, where maybe I will need to roll only 1 (or 2) for every NPC.

So any ideas?

The easiest way would be to group the CSM into an allied Horde. However, having a Horde of CSM seems like extreme overkill. If you do, make sure to set the Magnitude very low.

Apart from that, you can just say that their allies can destroy/distract one enemy horde or group of somewhat equal foes each combat. For example, you have the PCs, their CSM allies and they fight many loyalist SM, then the player's CSM would take out an equal number of loyalist SM right out of the fight. Just like that. Apart from that, you just fight as if the CSM and "distracted" loyalist SM would not even be there, just describing their fight "in the background" in narrative terms.

I like this method. Then you do a few rolls every now and then to see how well they're doing, how many losses they take, taking into consideration any Command roles/powers the PC's used.

I'm a fan of the 'Simple' Horde vs. Horde rules found in the back of Mark of the Xenos. I imagine if you wanted to make a CSM 'Horde' you could adapt it if you gave the CSM double the advantage of what's listed in there for an already superior force.

Well we used SM hordes some time ago it went smoothly. So what magnitude would have 1 CSM/SM? Maybe 1 CSM = 15 Mag?

igotsmeakabob!!

You mean that when they fight with other horde they roll 3d10+Mag Bonus vs 2d10+Mag bonus?

As I recall, the standard rule is 2d10+Mag Bonus vs. 2d10+Mag Bonus, the loser detracts the difference from their magnitude. Quality-superior forces get an extra d10. I was thinking marines would be more than just 'superior' though, but you could just reflect that in their magnitude.
