Well, look at that.

Who'd've thunk?

Obviously, it would be too much to ask for compatibility with the "ancient texts" (so those old cards will remain somewhat unusable museum relics), but an original remake/revival is a compromise I'm willing to entertain. I find myself rather fond of the Android dystopia; it's probably the best natural match available for Netrunner (since no one seems to be able to get Shadowrun back off the ground).

Way to mine the past for gems, FFG!

Finally a sci if LCG! Sign me up.

PS. Shadowrun is still around. It's made by Catalyst Game Labs. Same guys that make Battletech.

I'm rather fond of the Android property as well: I wonder if FFG has any plans to revise the "failed" Android boardgame into a streamlined 2nd edition.

Now that would be a dream come true if only.

I would get behind that.

Oh, wait - I already did:

Unfortunately, life (mostly university) got in the way of me completing this project.

I actually expressly don't want it to be compatible… they would have to rerelease all the same cards for it to fit into the LCG model and if you change the rules of deck building (and I believe it is safe to assume they will/have) it just breaks down even further.

The old game was fun, especially sealed, but I'm super intrigued by this "new" game in the LCG model.

P.S. The 80's kid in me would never forgive the adult me if I didn't end with this phrase…

"Hack the planet!"

I would love it to see it compatible, but i don't believe that they will do that. In any case, as I stated before i know that the old nr community will make a variant/homemade rules to make that compatibility works. But that's just unofficially, as it is illogical to make the LCG compatible with the CCG, it just do not feels right.

I'm really curious to see this new version of the game, but i'm very intrigued to see the rules, more than anything, i do think that this is gonna be my first LCG, so i'm going with the flow to see how this will work.

Shadowrun is still around, as mentioned above. And the Kickstarter fundraising for a proper computer game was successful:

I'm hoping it isn't compatible as well. Let me grow into the game as I did the first time, not have me try to combine my thousands of old cards with the new releases. Fresh start for me, please.

why not combining the old cards ?

in fact most of the cards are the same but they changed some number to balance the cards in a different way so that we can't reuse the old one but in fact they are the same … i don't know the pb if they would have reprint the old card …

except that old players won't play this android game, yes i call it adroid game … it is not Netrunner …so many rules changing ….

i even guess they remove the Trace/link …

I'm pretty sure the input from the old generation Netrunners are solid, know they are around here. Also there appear to be a few Netrunner vets who are posting around here.

Seriously, quit the whining. If you don't like the fact your game is getting remade in a new version. Then by all means continue to play the dead ccg. This is Android: Netrunner, not Netrunner CCG. You know how many people would kill to have their favorite 90s CCG brought back from the dead in any version, hundreds if not thousands of fans.

and we haven't even seen the rules yet so saying so many rules changes is a huge leap that lacks any factual evidence.

@ wormhole surfer: I agree with Toqtamish. I would love for example that Doomtrooper would return as LCG. But it's highly unlikely.

So be happy about Android: Netrunner.

Why would you think that? They still have tags, and we've seen cards that rely on the runner being tagged. Presumably there's still a mechanic involved in receiving those tags, and as far as I know we have zero indicator of what that will be. Maybe they did get rid of it - maybe "Give the runner a tag" is a simplification of the mechanic, and it's now cheaper for the runner to avoid tags, and that works into other balance issues. We don't know, but different is not automatically worse. If they'd gotten rid of the tag mechanic completely I might sympathize - I loved playing tag-n-bag decks and would miss them if they were gone - but they obviously haven't.

If you want to be the resident "It's not completely recreating everything from the original perfectly so it's going to be horrible!" ranter, I guess that's your choice. But doing so without actually seeing the game or how it plays really isn't impressing anyone. I think we'd all rather you just breathe slowly into the paper bag, and wait to see how the actual game plays before going crazy. Note that I didn't say "see if you like it" - you obviously won't, you've clearly decided that. But it would at least make you look a LITTLE credible.

What I'd really like is a multiplayer variant.

I can't see any way at all to do a multiplayer variant with the exception of 2v2 with shared resources. The gameplay lends itself to a duel mechanic far too easily.

just wait you'll see that Trace has been removed .. i hope i am wrong ;)

anyway of course tag are still here and avoiding/remove tag will still be too but the trace/link process will be removed .

just see the agenda 4/1 giving 1 BP, it already exists but now it gives a tag … just because there is no more trace cards and u'll see, i'm sure that many cards that didn't give tags before will …

i wanna see more and i'll judge Android definitly when it will be release, don't be wrong i'm happy but i prefer to be prudent and say for instance that Android isn't really NR …

let's see and hope i'll be wrong since NR is just a briliant game

Dude, you are part of the NR council thing, you guys changed the game, added rules and card that were never in the original game. You have no credibility when it comes to what changes they have made making the game different from the original when you did the same thing. The problem is evident, they changed the game in a way that is different than how you changed it and because of that you are dissatisfied. That is your privilege, but you are not being prudent with all the stuff you are saying you are being whiney.

And Android is a different game, this in Android:Netrunner, or Netrunner for short if you want A:N, but it is not Android. That is a board game that has nothing to do with being a runner hacking into a corporation or being a MegaCorp and trying to advance your corporate agendas.

Give it a rest before you end up in a sanitarium. We don't want you to have a nervous breakdown. Take a deep breath, relax, and repeat after me, change is not necessarily bad. One agenda that gives a tag under no expression of logic equates to trace and link being removed from the game. Keep saying this until you can post something that is factually based.

thanks for your nice words on me ;)

if i had to have a nevrous breakdown trust me i would have had it for a long time with all the energy i gave for NR …

yes u're right to sayt that we tried to evolve NR by creating new cards but what was very hard was to balanced them in the original environment . that was hard but i think we succedd ( and we are still balancing Open War and deep run)

except u're are a member of the playtesting team you can't say that my saying could be wrong this is hypothetic i admit but here here to speak no ?

u're right i made a mistake by shrotening Android, i know that is a board game ;)

maybe i can call it Android LCG so , sorry

I'm betting "Netrunner LCG" becoming the common term for it myself.

And, I second the motion that we should wait until we see actual rules before jumping to conclusions or presenting them as anything more than idle speculation for fun.

My friends and I tried making a variant where three hackers went up against one megacorp. We made it through a few variations (turn order, megacorp actions) before we stopped. It was fun for the most part.

Me too.

I'm willing to bet that everyone but the veteran fans are going to be referring to this as Netrunner. This is the only game that a lot of people will know, and if they refer to it to other players of this game, it's not going to be long before it becomes Netrunner, at least from a spoken perspective..

I never got to play the original, but love CCG/LCG's, have a growing interest in cyberpunk and enjoy the Android IP (I like the boardgame, personally, and want to check out the novel). Infiltration looks fun too. Way to go FFG! Hoping this will be at GenCon to check out.

I'm pretty sure it will be at Gencon. That's right in the middle of their projected release window and the impact of making it is huge - you get tons of buzz and a lot of extra profits selling copies at full cost direct to the consumers rather than through distributors. if it's at all possible, they want it to be there.
