Anyone use the chef yet?

By felkor, in Dust Warfare

Just curious if anyone has used the chef yet and what they think of him. I'm fielding him in a game tonight, just to see how it works out, but am still not totally sure how to best use him. He seems like a cheap (in more than one meaning) way of getting points in a break the line or key positions scenario. Is sneaking up and attacking with this guy useful? He's not exactly super-strength on his own and I imagine he'd get wiped out almost immediatly after attacking behind enemy lines.

Any thoughts on the chef and how he best be used?

With his "nobody can shoot me 'till I shoot them" I think he'd be best used as an Assassin hunting down solo Heroes/pesky observation teams/snipers/light walkers, or as a threat piece trying to force dug in guys out of position. And yeah, I'm guessing he dies the turn after he opens up.

Personally I think any figure wearing an apron should be barred from the battlefield.

I used him about a week ago. He was fun. He is a timing issue, so whatever you want him to assassinate, make sure you time him right and you might be able to keep him alive for a bit

He cant be shoot or attacked use him as a blocking model until his firepower is needed. Remember they can move closer than 1" to him.

Haha, never thought about using him as a mobile source of cover and to restrict enemy movement. I think I'm going to have to be careful… I want my wife to like this game and using the chef mainly to cause frustration might not be my best long-term strategy. :-)

When I use him I have him try and hunt down a unit in that has been activated in my opponents command phase and pray for a long tom attack on units that are close to him. Units that are suppresed and already have a reaction marker on them are the best targets. You could always put air drop on him and drop him behind enemy lines to go after a command squad and get rid of that radio.

My God man! That is a horribly awesome idea!!!

So we finished our game and it went quite well. My wife had Angela paired with the battle grenadiers. I was slowly picking at them, but then with chef starting the turn within range, I fired with my Grim Reapers, took them down to just Angela with one health and 3 soldiers, and then a sustained attack with The Chef (that the squad couldn't react to because of Grim Reapers' suppression) he was able to take them out, and even survived til the end of the game!

So he worked out pretty well in the end, to say the least.

Angela with a sniper unit. Ouch. Took out a medium walker with one firing phase (she gets two shots, each hits 2/3 of the time at 36" range, no armor or cover saves…dead walker). Worth the 42 total points.
