ssu cards

By Dakkon426, in Dust Tactics

Played several games with the SSU this weekend. They are not overpowered as someone from anther board has strenuously stated partido_risa.gif

They do play very differently than the Axis or Allies though. Two MGs in their battle squad along with the short ranged rifles was pretty cool. They could throw out 12 attacks if within 2 squares, but still a very solid 6 if within 4 squares. The Helicopted had no luck, as it kept getting pwn3d by my ridiculous luck with the Heavy Flak Grenadiers. Koshka and Grandma are pretty awesome, and the combo of Assault and Fighting spirit can really kick som butt if you set things up right. Our forces were all of the SSU releases vs the Axis Revised core + a Kommando truppe. One issue that came up is that the SSU engineer can't bring Grandma back since its a rare unit, but this won't be a big deal when the rest of the walkers come out.

I think once the KV-47 with dual howitzers and All in One comes out, the SSU won't have any big troubles against walkers.

What suprised me is how small the SSU walkers are / will be.

From the pictures, they look huge, but in reality quite smaller than the axis/allies in volume. I suspect this is because we never saw them one beside the other in the same picture.

But if you look at their relative size on their bases they ARE quite smaller. I guess this is because some versions need to be realistically carried by an helicopter. If the walker was as big as the axis or allies one, then the helicopter carying it would need to be even bigger than a heavy walker…

From the latest article:

"And there’s more to come. The SSU KV47 Walker Expansion is on its way, representing the SSU’s greatest advances in walker technology."

So it seems we'll get the KV-47 box soon (it had been announced at the sime time as the currently available units), and then we'll get the second wave, including the commissars, at a later date.

I'd rather get the walker transport as it ALSO comes with a walker :)

They are all probably going to come out at the same time.

Compared to the comic, they have made the KV's a lot bigger than they should be, but the size is a nice compromise and look heavy and leathal, a bit like comparing a dwarf with a human.

The Walker that is "Air Mobile" is a different kind of walker that looks like it may have a lower armor rating. I'm guessing that these will be the SSU armor three walkers.

If anything, they look like they would have a higher armour rating, since they have some extra plates in place.

I am hoping we will get a mass-produced (cheaper) and officially pointed KV-152, as well as the IS-5 "Karl Marx", which I imagine will be the SSU super-walker.

I'm going to go ahead and make a bold prediction: The SSU will have a tracked tank/artillery piece. I know, not so bold really gui%C3%B1o.gif . The designs on the pages of Zverograd clearly show a tracked vehicle with a really big gun. I wonder if this may be the SSU arty? Or maybe their super heavy vehicle?

Should be cool either way!

Humm, I hadn't noticed that.

SSUtank.jpg

Though I hope they don't do that. Looks kinda boring next to the walkers…

Looks similar the the SU-14 series of experimental self-propelled guns from the mid-1930's.

Its looks like an ISU-152, an IS-3, and a German Elefant tank destroyer were all combined into one vehicle.

I really like the idea. Nothing really says Russia quite like a huge tracked artillery piece.

I also got the impression that the SSU walkers tended to be deployed more in pairs and triplets than Axis & Allied walkers. Doesn't really matter unless DT gets the one bit from DW that I really like, the unit organization so you have to keep your buying within certain broad boundaries. Which would mean an Axis/Allied armor unit would have four or five "slots" with one walker each and the SSU could have two each.

There's an article for Yacov up, along with his stat card:

Very nice card. People were worried about the Legendary Tactician skill, but I think it's nice and expensive. Apart from the skill, Yacov is very similar to Stefan, with only an extra, very puny, TT-46 (anybody has any idea what that is? I assume it's a sidearm…), and marginally better C combat. And yet he costs 12AP more than Stefan's 18. He's more expensive than the powerful Fakyeli, which he's likely to join.

Likely a fictional upgrade of the TT-33, the more modern of the two most common Soviet WW2 sidearms (the other being the badass Nagant M1895).

Is Yakov the first character that actually has an historical counterpart? I think he might be.

Proper cost for proper Hero.

He can stand back, defending the objective with any unit.

Definitely worth in my future army :D

Good catch. As far as I know that's the first historical hero in the game.

Hey!

Did FFG mentioned which KV walker will be artillery one for SSU?

It will be one of the "Walker Transport" KV-47 variants, the only one we haven't seen a picture of yet. From the website:

"Nikita has an artillery weapon that allows you to make attacks without line of sight when paired with a spotter squad."

Though, strangely, its entry in the Zverograd booklet doesn't mention it being artillery, only that its attacks ignore cover.

Yeah, I run Zverograd booklet there and back and couldn't find anything artillery-wise…

Can you get a pic of the stat card for the SSU Attack Copter

No. Anybody already in possession of such a card wouldn't be alowed to post it yet.

If somebody got the model in LEGAL way (some pre-pre-pre order) then why not.

Well yeah, but there's not really such a thing going on. For example, one of the guys at Ravage Magazine got his hands on the model, probably as a promotional item or something, but he's not going to post the card because FFG or Dust-Models hasn't done it yet.

Is there any official release schedule for the rest SSU stuff???

Some sites says May 2012, some says June 2012. Any tips/leaks/hunches :D
