Uncommon Faiths/Orders - how to make them work?

By stanmons, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hi,

As GM, I'm struggling to find any meaning for some of the more uncommon faiths an orders.

I'd assume they could classified as:

Very common=Sigmar,Amethyst,Shallya,Bright

Common=Amber, Jade, Light, Celestial, Grey, Morr

Rare=Ulric, Rhya, Myrmidia, Taal, Ranald

Very rare=Manaan, Gold

Regardless whether you agree on the above classification or not, would you have experiences on the "rare" and "very rare" faiths and orders how to get them interesting and contributing?

Our group´s play-style uses a lot of skill checks and they are roughly 1/3 combat, 1/3 social, 1/3 mental/physical tests.

I think you've got them about right for commonality.

Sigmar's going to be common in the Reikland.

Ulric is going to be more common in Middenheim.

Shallya and Rhya would be common everywhere (and Rhya has another name in Nordland..Haleth)

Morr is going to be uncommon, but well-known everywhere.

Most wizards are going to be rare everywhere. Bright wizards are pretty much snatched up by the military..so they probably Merc-out when not in service.

Manaan is very common among fishermen, boatmen, dockworkers and many that dealt with the sea. Tossing a coin overboard is considered good practice before embarking on a journey over water I believe. That's a way to make Manaan contribute, adding fortune dice to those that toss a coin or misfortune to those that don't and the modifier from the offering could be applied on all checks while on a ship. Also, while looking for food, fishing could be aided by prayers or offerings to Manaan.

Just to be clear, are you speaking of rarity in the game setting or are you speaking of rarity at the table (as in rare to find a player choosing the order/faith)?

Hi, yes, sorry for being unclear - I meant the rarity of players choosing those faiths/orders.
