Five 200ap games- a tale of beard to come

By caecitas, in Dust Warfare

Evening Gents.

I am in a fortuante situation - come bank holiday Monday i will be running a whole host of 200ap games for around 7 friends. With my own 400ap allies force now made and a friends 400ap of axis formed, we will be running a day dedicated to introducing players to the joys of dust warfare through a simple method:

200ap games, any models I own may be used to make a personal allies force, vice versa for the axis.

Now this should prove to be a ton of fun. Quite a few of the guys have given the game atleast 1 solid go with the core box starting kit, so Mondays games are designed to let potential new commers play with a list more in line with their styles while allowing me to get an idea as to how numerous different 200ap lists fair against each other.

Now here comes the real reason i wanted this topic opened and i want to ask for the input of players: One of the guys siding with the allies has made a 200ap list, an assult platoon that includes a punisher heavy walker. While I for one do not consider this unreasonable, im aware a few other threads have discussed this topic though id like to report back my findings and generally get a feeling for how this all pans out.

If requested i will happily put up the lists the players have constructed for themselves and will be reporting on my findings per game. Id also like people to post here units or platoon designs that they would like to see played so that i can construct them and report back any findings.

tl;dr - 5 plus 200ap games are going to be played on Monday to discover balance/metagame and generally push the game from a title ive played a few times and am enjoying to small tourney level.

stick 200ap lists below here, any list you can think of be it competitive or theme and i will try to make sure said list gets played.

below are the physical units i own so that people may have a go at designing lists

Ranger command squad
Ranger attack squad
Ranger weapon squad
2 recon ranger squads
Sniper team
Observer team
Heavy ranger assault squad
British paratroopers
Law m1-b Blackhawk
2 medium walkers
Heavy walker
Rhino (hero)

absolutely felkor i agree with you.

Unfortunately i wont be doing the majority of the playing as ill need to referee the games as they happen. Still, any extra games i get in i intend to try some interesting lists indeed, and i will be advicing the new bloods as to how to use their forces effectively.

Someone taking a HAW isn't the end of the world, it's not going to leave that player with many units and players who can take advantage of the battle builder can ignore it and kill the rest of his force, etc. Just make sure your not playing on a huge board and you don't help people beat him, (seen guys do that before it turns people off from games) he needs to enjoy it as well and it'll be a good challenge to see who defeats his list.

absolutely Manuel.

Any particular list designs or concepts for force design you personally favor? I want people to be putting down their own take on effective lists and designs - The idea of this thread is to get some healthy mechanical discussion on this board as to the nature of the current metagame and hopefully get the place buzzing, as currently the forum is remarkably slow.

Sorry was pretty busy yesterday do you want ideas for both the Allies and Axis? Army concepts really depend on the players, are they experienced wargamers or newbies?

fairly experienced. Most play other systems. 2 have arrived so far, we are setting the table up now. Ill be writing lists of their forces and reviews per game.

the first game is up.

200ap game - eliminate the enemy, close deployment, none

axis list -

sturmpioneer command

2 laser grens

2 zombie units

1 ludwig

grenadeer x

totemmeister

allied list -

assult command

recon rangers

british paratroopers

punisher

heavy weapon ranger squad

results to follow. Place your bets gents.

I've got Allies by a nose!

thought its 1 hero per platoon even tho you can have 2 for being over 150.

interesting, you may well be right. They are just deploying now. Ill include a photo in a second. Know of any good sites i can upload the pictures to?

heroes do not count as part of a platoon unless they are leading it - so you can take 2 in a 200ap game.

cool, thought it was 1 per platoon for some reason. thx

the game is on gentlemen!

The close deployment helps the zombies, it'll be an interesting game.

an interesting game - the axis won by 4 kills to 2 for the allies. While the UGLS mangled the zombies first turn, the rest of the undead forces ate the infantary.

poor para-placement resulted in the paras being supressed for the entirety of the game, and the heavy allied walker only inflicted 2 damage to the medium axis tank. All in all, poor planning and poor fortune ruined the allies day. Onto the next game! Lists comming soon.

allied comments -

"The 155mm howwie can supress, but does very little damage vs infantary. The heavy armor needs to be used up close and personal, i regret holding it back for 3 turns." - Lee

axis comments -

"support your zombies - supress the unit you want to charge. Grenadeer X is asounding" - Matt

And THAT'S why I'm not a betting man!

Great job with the report, and Go Axis! I couldn't agree more, though. Grenadier X is, in fact, awesome.

you will have to forgive my lack of turn by turn reporting - we are getting 10 games done today - this is for the benifit of metagame and finding rules issues.

the next game uses the same axis force as previously, but totemmeister has been removed, along with a zombie squad. they have been replaced with a heavy flak squad and a hans light walker.

axis list

sturmpioneer command

2 laser grens
1 zombie unit
1 heavy flak unit

1 ludwig

1 hans

grenadeer x

the allied list is as follows

1 hot dog

1 pounder

rhyno

heavy assult rangers

british paratroopers

recon ranger squad

recon weapon squad

200ap game as last time.

key position, advancing lines, off target shelling.

Let the games begin!

I put a half-eaten corndog and a lint ball on the Allies, please!

Oops, wrong thread.

Those are what we use for tokens. Corn Dog bits = wounds, and lint balls are suppresion. happy.gif

That's not a bad idea. Although for this game it might get a bit expensive, as there aren't 'bits' left on sprues for playing such games with. Back in the good old days of Rogue Trader (40K First Edition), we used to use bases with spills of blood on them to indicate wound markers . . . but then, we used to leave all of our dead models lying on the table, with puddles of felt 'blood' beneath them, too . . . ah, the wacky and wild days of my youth . . .

If you're inclined to make such wound markers and the like, you might want to price out 40k Imperial Guard bits on eBay or the warstore. Disembodied arms and legs and such probably don't need to be THAT close to the originals to indicate wounds . . .

an allied objective based victory. 4-2

that air dropped hotdog made a world of difference, causing seirous hurt to a commited infantary force of the axis sat on the flank. Generally speaking the attitude was that the 17 pounder is well worth the cost also.

onwards, to the next game!

Woohoo! Got one!

This is great fun, Caecitas! Thanks for including us in your event!

Now give us the next list so we can lay our wagers down! cool.gif
