Multiple investigators fighting single monsters.

By Kylo, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello, I am new to the forums so bare with me if I posted this in the wrong forum or if this topic has already been created, I read through the forums rules and want to try and adhere to those as best as possible.

I bought Arkham Horror a few months back and have been just having a blast playing it with friends over the last few months. I just recently picked up my first expansion which was Kingsport and am looking forward to playing with it this week. I wanted to develop a balanced way that multiple investigators could take on a single monster for the really hard times when we have a bunch of the harder monsters show up in Arkham, not just to make taking them down a little easier for when we aren't as well equipped, but also to futher the co-op fun the game is based around. I searched the forums to see if someone has already done this in one of their games, thus helping to speed along my attempts at this. I haven't had much luck finding a forum topic reguarding this game alteration and was just hoping that if someone has already brought this up, maybe someone could link me to that or at least give me some pointers for this alteration, My hope is to try and devise this by sunday because that is usually when my friends and I get together and play.

I look forward to viewing all the topics and what people have to say on this forum and really would appreciate any help you all might be able to give.

Hmm that's an interesting idea, haven't seen anything about it on these forums, but should be possible to figure something out...

To crudely borrow a little from the World of Darkness system:

If multiple investigators find themselves at the same location, the "supporting" investigators can roll their own fight checks, and each success adds a die to the main fighting investigators combat check. This should probably also apply to the horror check in this case (the characters giving each other courage).

One thing that might require some more thought is the navigation... how do you make two characters meet up? Now that would be handled by one investigator moving and ending his movement on a monster and just evading it, and wait for the other investigator to catch up, this kinda goes a little against the "co-op" aspect you might want to achieve however.

Another thing is how would damage distributed if the investigators collectively lose the roll? Does only the main fighter lose sanity/stamina? You'd want to have *some* danger for the supporting characters as well. (Maybe a skill check, least successes gets hit, with a modifier for the "main fighter"?)

Maybe I've given some ideas to people! I'll continue to think about it and if I figure out something more solid, I'll post again ;)

If you were to do that, you'd force each Investigator to make their own Horror check, and give a dice pool bonus to the "main" fighting Investigator. With both Investigators taking combat damage if they failed.

Also, you'd only apply the Combat Modifier to the main Investigator's roll, but you'd apply the monster's resistances and immunities to both Investigators and their weapons.
