Ranged attacks while engaged or into an engagement?

I agree with GravitysAngel. If you are outnumbered 3 to 1, then disengaging is gonna cost you 3 maneuvers (i.e. 1 free and 2 fatigue for the others). It makes sense and players should be able to relate that rule easily enough. Plus it's consistent and can go both ways if the PC's outnumber the enemy.

i really don't understand where the confusion came in. it seemed obvious to my players and i that you moved from engaged to close as a maneuver. as for multiple foes i simply use the existing rules for dice pool generation whereby the GM adds whatever dice he pleases to account for the situation.

in this case if the disengaging player attempts to shoot he gets misfortune dice to account for the tussle involved in disengaging.

i am generaly the first to want hard and fast rules. but his situation is exactly what the game is designed for if you discribe how you are keeping your enemies to one side as you slowly move back it doesnt matter how many there are your disengage would be easy if you kept an exit free. if the gm says there are so many that they start to wrap around you and you are in the open or didnt describe any terrian nearby to help, then (your not playing properly) your disengage may require a test (coord/aths/resil) suffer fatigue or stress or simply not happen.

i get what armoks was saying and would agree that it make perfect sense but the ffg rules are great as well so i guess i would go with the official(maybe not, ill talk to GM, armok's really does make more sense why get a free disengage.

moving from long distance requires more than one manouver so that does not matter

i guess as i started saying it depends on the situation

as for kitting are you all playing in paddocks or on basketball courts the space cant be that open that you can just keep circling the gm should be able to trap you agaisnt walls /in alleys/ make ground difficult and just keep throwing black die at you till you stop doing annoying or cheesy things. sometimes shooting and running away is part of the story then it would be fine but if your going to try and do this in a city your going to create havoc or in a building it is as simple as the gm saying this guy is at the door you are traped stand and fight like a man/elf/short hairy dude.

Great stuff, why don't they put that in the errata/rule clarification document?

Because it's already in there.
