More close combat questions

By Zombiejoe, in Dust Warfare

Hi I got more confusion :D

1. Can I just walk out of CC?

2. Can I choose to shoot another unit, other than the one I'm in close combat with?

3. Can I choose to shoot the unit I'm in CC with?

4. Can other units choose to shoot me or my enemy unit, that I'm in CC with?

Thanks :D

pg57 it does not state that you must stay in close combat so therefore you should be able to walk out. they may errata it but for the time being we're safe from getting backstabbed while fleeing

Ok, thanks! Some of these of these rules are a little confusing. I read the whole book but I could not find a place that said anything about the restrictions of shooting in or out of combat.

what happens when a unit shoots into the combat? Does it grant cover?

pg42, friendly minatures never block line of sight

no cover is granted from the combat it self but there can be cover depending on what units you are shooting through.

soliders obscured by soliders are considered terrain and grant soft cover. there is no shooting through additional troops or anything like that. PG42

With regards to question #2, where does it say you cannot shoot at a unit other than the unit you are in close combat with?

There is a combat action and a close combat action. (PG 57) It I am the activating player and I take a Close Combat attack, my unit cannot split fire. It can only make cc attacks versus the unit it is ccing.

An attack reaction to my ccing unit from the target unit can only react with CC. (It could have shot at me with an attack reaction to my movement however.

a unit in CC can only do CC to that unit.

it does not state that a unit in CC cannot shoot another unit on the field, but if it wants to attack the unit in CC it must use CC weapons

You'll find the Close Combat rules confusing if you try to think about other games where units get locked in close combat.

In this game, Close Combat isn't a situation you get locked in, it's just a type of attack, that is just like a normal attack with just a couple special rules:

1) If using close combat weapons, can't use other weapons.

2) If being attacked by close combat weapons, only allowed reaction is attacking back with close combat weapons.

3) Close combat weapons ignore cover.

Other than that, they are a regular weapon, and everything works just like a regular weapon. There's no "firing into close combat", because after the attack has happened, they are not "in close combat" - they are just 2 units who happen to be located near each other.

You could also be in a situation where you are within CC range (3 inches) and attack using rifles. Perfectly legal. You just would not also be using any weapons that have C as their rating.

isnt that what i jus said but u said it nicer??? lol

So they make the distinction between what weapons you can use cause, normally you can fire all your weapons. LIke I can fire my machine gun and my UGL or my machine gun and my panzerfaust. But if you are attacking with a CC weapon, as a reaction basically, then you cannot use the non CC weapons.

This is my understanding of it.

Yes, simply stated when you move a unit into CC and attack the attacked unit can not respond to CC attacks with shooting, but after that players turn is over and the responding player activates the unit that was in CC they can still shoot they don't HAVE to make CC attacks.
