Newbie targ questions and question about card controller/ownership

By Ryokensan, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hello there everyone! I was recently introduced to the game of thrones LCG, and have a group of friends that play regularly together. Over the course of several games a couple of questions have arose that I need some help clarifying rules with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. I have used Horseback Archers ability to be put into play as a joining attacker for 1 influence in a combat. My opponent uses a card that gains control of the horseback archer. Does he now own the horseback archer, and further more does the horseback archers ability of returning to the owners hand not resolve or the effect gets canceled when the card changes controller?

2. I have initiated a military challenge, and my opponent has declared defenders. At that point can I ambush an Aggo's Bow onto a now defended character, and use it's ability to kill the defender and now make the attack unopposed?

3. If my opponent plays a plot with 2 initiative, and then during marshaling plays a character that gets discarded from play when it's controller has an intiativeof 2 or less. Does that character get immediately discarded from play?

4. I am using the hatchlings in my deck along with the full grown dragons. If I play one of the shadow versions of the hatchlings and bring it out from the shadows, am I no longer able to play the full grown version of the same dragon (white/viserion, green/rhaegar, black/drogon)?

Thanks for any help you can provide, and this will really help with staightening out these porecarious situations.

  1. There is no way to change ownership, because ownership of a card is determined only by whose deck it came out of. Also, when the effect that returns Horseback Archers to hand initiates, you are still the person referred to by "you", so it will return to your hand anyway. On a side note, when your opponent takes control of the Archers, they are removed from the challenge rather than becoming defenders in it.
  2. Yes, you can use an action to ambush Aggo's Bow on one of your attackers and, after your opponent has taken an action or passed, use another for the bow's action. After that, your opponent and you can still take actions, as long as there is at least one character in the challenge. Assuming he cannot do anything, the challenge would indeed be unopposed.
  3. Yes, it is discarded immediately, because you have an initiative score as long as you have a plot revealed (so the only time you don't have one is at the very beginning of the game, before you reveal your first plot).
  4. You can still play the grown dragons, as the hatchlings are distinct cards (different titles). However, the text of the hatchlings will then take effect and the hatchlings will become duplicates to their corresponding grown version.

You're welcome.

Thank you both very much for the help and greatly appreciate the clarification!
