Flyers for Errrrrrrbody?

By CSMason26, in Dust Warfare

The Russian's are getting some serious flyers so, what about everyone else? I would love to see the Axis get some planes to dog fight and the Americans to get some Armor 3 Bombers. :) I'm too busy wishlisting and hoping that I haven't even realized that the SSU has yet to come out but the fact that FFG is taking to the skies has me hopeful.

Imagine how cool it would be to have Axis planes with laser machine guns and Allies planes with phasers. Imagine how cool it would be to have Armor 2 infantry parachuting out of an Allies plane in the face of the Axis and SSU, ignoring reaction. Or how about an Allies bomber. Don't get me started on the idea of armor plated zeplins that have the capability of damaging area of effect when they blow up. They'd sell me so many of those.

FFG I hope you're looking at this!!! Take my money.

I presume the Axis are going to get some sort of Dive Bomber and or funky Jet Airplanes. Though Sky Diving Zombies would be neat.

The SeeLowe campaign mentions that the allies are developping a "super-air-unit".

The axis stole those plans…

So yeah, i believe we'll see some flyers for those two factions.

However, Dust Warfare also mentions specifically that the Axis is mainly a ground-based faction.

This leads me to believe that the SSU are going to be flying-oriented, the Axis ground oriented with lot's of firepower and the Allies are going to stand between the two, with more mobility.

Yeah, apparently the Axis air forces are all tied up with strategic defensive warfare, mostly in the west. One of the major reasons for Seelöwe.

I think the aircraft in Dust basically means rotary winged stuff or similar, though I don't see why they couldn't add abstract rules for CAS for scenarios.

I am disappointed that we don't already have the Rakatentruppen: Craaaazy German infantry with really huge rockets strapped to them. Huge enough to propel quasi-kamikazes (say that three times fast) into the air far enough and fast enough to attack aircraft in flight! (They were in the original comic.)

They get mentioned as the ones the allies stole their rocket tech from, but from what I read in the modeling mags, they sound like they actually fly, so maybe they will be released as a Aircraft 1 unit.

They are coming. Just have to wait a bit.

Here's my guess, made out of thin air:

- The Allies are going to have a flyer with armour 3.

- The Axis might have a flyer with armour 3, or no flyers at all… ever.

- The Vrill are going to have infantry armour 4 (heavy infantry) and 1 (swarm-type little buggers). At least this way, it would be a very interesting faction to play and would make a nice contrast to the other factions.

- The next tanks for the allies and axis coming soon is going to be vehicle armour 5.

This will leave vehicle armour 1, 2 and 6 (and least for warfare) and flyer with armour 1 left which i have no idea if they are even going to come.

This has been what I've been expecting as well, ever since Tactics came out - combination of big aliens in power suits, and large squads of 8-10 little critters of some sort. It's also what I'm hoping for - SSU do not have a starter pack to make it economical to play them, and on top of that there are really only minor differences between them and the other 2 factions (especially once other factions get air units.) But I would hope the Vrill would quite different from the human factions, and if they are, then they will be worth picking up (possibly even if they don't do any kind of starter packs.)

Don't forget we will probably see the aliens fighting the Vril too so if the Vril turn out to be more like Cogs or Therians (in the sense that there aren't that many of them) and the other alien race will probably be more organic. (Hopefully not flat out bugs.)

Axis Fallshirmjager please !!!!!

As for the SSU, I suspect they will have their famed (and unique) power-suits in squads, not operating singly like walkers. Although I am sorry that its seems the Russkies aren't going to have something in the way of armor 1 horde infantry of 1941-43, having instead the veteran survivors. I am somewht troubled that I've seen nothing of their large walkers in the production pipe.

Operation Zverograd has artwork for the Fury of Ivan in it which is basically an uparmored and upgunned captured Ludwig. The Fury of Ivan is currently available from Dust Models and contains plastic/ resin parts. If it is going to be intended for normal sales/ mass market Im sure the resin piees will be switched to plastic. Also and the background art in Operation Zverograd the watermark has the IA-5A "Karl Marx". In the fluff section it is described as a russian super heavy tank. It would make sense that this will eventually be released as the Wotan (due soon) was in the original rulebook in the same fashion.

I really want some Allied choppers for my Weird War collection, is their a timeline for their release or somethin because when they come out their first use on the board will be to the flight of the valkyries.

"Yeah. But Vrill don't surf!". gran_risa.gif

Since mobility and speed is so important to the Allies, my bet is that they don't have choppers anytime soon. Instead, they'll have armor 2 ground attack "planes" analogous to a P-47. Air support was always important to US strategy. Hopefully, it'll fill out the Allies' weak AA too.

Not that it's proof.. but it's interesting that on the dust-game site you can buy a "flyer" decal sheet that includes decals for allies and SSU but not a one for axis…
