Tyrion Lannister (LotR) Questions

By ultimax, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I have a couple questions concerning Tyrion Lannister (LotR).

1. Is it possible to use his "Response: kneel a clansman character to save tyrion lannister from being killed" ability to kneel clansman even if there currently no effect attempting to "kill" tyrion? (ie there is a kill effect targeting Timett (MotM), could I use tyrion to kneel timett even if there is nothing killing tyrion?)

If this is not possible, could you kneel mutiple clansman to respond to the same kill effect on tyrion? (ie If valar morghulis is played, can I kneel 4 clansman with tyrion effect as a response to the valar?)

2. Tyrion other ability states that "While tyrion lannister is participating in a challenge, all knelt clansman characters you control are also participating in that challenge on the same side as tyrion" If I have a knelt "The Burned Man" (MotM) and tyrion is attacking, would the claim of my challenge be +1? (assuming the condition having fewer cards is fulfilled). Similarly, if tyrion is attacking and a knelt clansman character has the attachment "ILL-begotten Spoils"(ASoSilence), would the claim of my challenge be +1 as well?

Thanks for any clarification you can give me.

A "Response" is always a response to a source. There must be an appropriate effect to let you trigger a response to it. So, no, you can't save Tyrion from being killed if nothing is killing him. And no also to the Valar one. After kneeling the first clansman to save Tyrion, Tyrion is not going anymore into moribund state, so you can't kneel a second clansman to save him a second time.

As for your other question, the Clansman characters brought into the challenge by Tyrion's ability are "participating." So if the play restrictions of an effect requires one of those Clansman characters to be participating, it will be met and the effect can be applied.

I just realized that, if you have Tyrion and lotsa knelt clansmen, you gotta be even more wary than other people if you attack a player with at least two standing Stark characters in a Military challenge…

This is true, unless Timmet son of Timmet is in play. Then Counterattack is useless.

For fun, I wonder if they will ever make an attachment that allows you to redirect a kill effect from one character and onto the attached character. Basically, if it is Tyrion with the attachment, it would be redirecting it to him because it is possible to save him. Maybe there is something like that in the CCG days.
