9 New Characters - Fan-made Add-on

By EStick, in Battlestar Galactica

Hi All,

I and my bsg-mates enjoyed the 11 fan-made add-ons so much, it prompted me to work on even more. In the link below you should be able to download a 9 additional character add-on, with tokens and an updated line of succession.

Please feel free to leave feedback - this is only the first version, so be gentle. I believe the file is high-res, but I'm new at all this, so it may not be.

Enjoy!

Quick fix - Cavil's 'I haven't seen you at any' ability should read 'You may show the group' not 'you must show the group'.

Sweet, thanks!

I also have been working on some homeade characters so I like to see other's takes on certain people. And FINALLY someone else made a Romo Lampkin! That dude is one of the coolest dudes on the show! Especially after last week's episode! What's also cool is you and I came up with the same once per game ability, and a similar normal ability for him.

Feedback for Romo:

I would change him to Support type (I do actually like the Citizen type you came up with, though a lawyer seems more important than a citizen), and change the cards he draws to 2 politics, 2 tactics (as leadership doesn't make too much sense for him). I also have a similar pickpocket ability, but have it actually take cards from other players: 'At the end of you turn, take one random skill card from another player into your hand.' As for his negative I do like the one you gave him. Mine is: ' Ethically Questionable- May never hold the President or Admiral titles.' But now I'm not sure which I like better.

~

I'll try to get feedback for the other ones, but for now I just wanted to show the love for the best lawyer ever! Good job for making these though.

Some of the character's Once Per Game abilities seem too one sided. Leoben, for example, is a terrible one if he is a cylon. I think he should be able to choose, after the Admiral chooses to use a nuke, to either keep from discarding the Nuke after use, or cause the Nuke itself to be a dud and there is no attack role, just discard the nuke.

Caprica Six should read "render inactive a Cylon Location" as the fleet location is one of the four options, but again this is more one-sided towards the humans. Perhaps the choice of either a Cylon or Galactica location until that player's next turn. It's not an auto-win such as damaging a Galactica location would be, but could seriously hamper the humans if you choose FTL Control or Command, limiting their combat options. Athena's action could also read: "During the Activate Cylon Ships Step, you may choose to activate the chosen units 2 times or not allow them to activate at all." Less record keeping, and works equally well both ways.

Personally I think this has all gotten WAY too out of hand and most of these characters (and most of the other 11) should not be playable. Don't take this personally, but there shouldn't be a civilian class and none of the real Cylons from the show should be playable characters. It just doesn't make any sense thematically or for the purposes of the game. Yes it wouldn't make sense for Starbuck to be Admiral or President, but it would be even stranger for 'caprica six' (who should have another name if she's human) to be president if she's supposed to be the same character she is in the show. The reason players are restricted in their choices is to keep a reasonable starting option for admiral, president and pilot. What happens if Athena and Boomer are both in the game? are they supposed to be twins? Also why would Leoben be allowed to pilot a viper?

Ahhhhhh.... I'm so against variants now.

After your posts in the other homeade characters thread, I actually really agree with you about the "real" Cylons being playable characters. It does lead to a lot of wierd situations.

Making an Athena I think is ok, but maybe she should have a second negative ability that says something like 'can't be chosen in the same game as Boomer', as Boomer is already gone when Athena is on Galactica anyways.

That aside, I think it's fine for people to make homeade characters of the people they like. Afterall, they are homeade and thus there is nothing forcing you or I to use them. For example, I may try out some of this guys characters, but I won't be using the "real" Cylon ones in my games, nor the Gina Invere from the other guy's homeade set. It is really cool to see people's ideas though, which in turn can lead to you coming up with your own versions as I have.

All in all, it's never bad to see people posting their ideas here and also never bad to see people caring about the game enough to make extra stuff for it.

I see the point you're making, but I disagree. All the 7 cylon models except for Simon had cover-identities for the fleet before they were revealed as Cylons. I've tried to design them along those lines - taking the game scenario as an alternate story where anyone can be a cylon, and anyone can be human - which technically it is without any of these fan-expansions. What if Doral -was- a human? He'd have been a wrongly accused tour guide who was left to his death at the ammo storage station. He can be that with his current card stats.

Caprica Six would have another name if she was human, and obviously she did when she was dating Baltar, but we were never given it, so I'd rather not just make one up. To answer the other questions - and citing Athena as one example - you can play these 'cylon' characters as humans, hereditary cylons who have not had their identity to revealed to others/themselves, or cylons who are on the humans side, loyalty-wise. There are plenty of ways to rationalize the story.

And that's cool. If you don't like the character variants, if it ruins the way you like to approach the game, then certainly don't use them. For me, they add to a game I enjoy a great deal.

I'm happy i'm not alone anymore. The melonball hate train will be a-rolling shortly (i'll be laying out specifics earlier this time around as evidently people prefer that)

Why must you hate, Melon? Maybe you should Mello...w out! See what I did there?

Forgive me for being presumptuous, but to head off what I think might be a common theme of your impending comments I might state that my 9 additions largely consider the previous 11 fan-made additions in regards to level of power and general method. If you didn't like those, or thought they were overpowered, then I really think these 9 are not for you.

That being said, if you've got some constructive criticism, then woot.
