Ekor & Shiver Nymph Question…

By rdskinfn7, in Talisman Rules Questions

Greetings all, I am new to the game and have been greatly enjoying it. I've run into quite a few questions, but most of them have already been answered on this board; however, I have not found anything regarding the Ekor or Shiver Nymph.

The question I have is:

Player A (Strength 4) lands on a space and draws the Ekor card which says:

Ekor - Strength: 2. This cowardly creatue will flee from anyone stronger than him. If your Strength is higher than 2, the Ekor will flee 1 scape clockwise instead of fighting you. Otherwise it will remain here until killed.

Obviously, the Ekor would move clockwise due to Player A's Strength. My question is, once another player lands on the Ekor, say Player B (Strength 4) does the Ekor continue to evade characters that land on him? This question applies to the Shiver Nymph as well but it involves craft instead of strength. Thanks for the help!

Simply put, yes!

Thanks for the response. I have three quick follow up questions.

1. Is the Monk allowed to use his inner belief when fighting the Ekor? His Strength is 2 but then becomes 5 when he adds his Craft value.

2. Similarly, if a Strength 2 character fights the Ekor is he allowed to use a weapon during battle?

My rationale for these questions is the character's Strength (as I understand it) is 2 before the battle. Since the Strength is 2, the Ekor will fight. Subsequently, the Monk adds his inner belief because he is now "during battle," or any other character can now add a weapon that adds to his/her strength because they are now "during battle."

3. Can you elect not to have the effects of an object affect you if you want to fight the Ekor? For example, you have a Magic Belt that adds plus 1 to your Strength - can you decide that you don't want your Strength to be altered by this item? (I am only asking because I can picture some of my more "creative" friends try and rationalize such a maneuver.)

Hi

1. Inner Belief is a special ability that adds Craft to Strength in battle and the Ekor flees if conditions are met when the card is encountered. If something changes afterwards, fight has begun.

2. Weapons usually do not increase Strength, but combat rolls. As said before, Ekor flees if your Strength is above 2 when you encounter the card. So your rationale is ok.

3. Of course yes, using Objects is always optional (see rules page 16, Having and Using Objects)

It is true that you can choose not to use an Object or Follower, but if you do, you cannot then choose to use it during the battle or psychic combat.

In other words, if a character declares that he is not using say the Magic Belt before battle, he cannot then choose to activate it during battle!

Weapons are another matter entirely, as you don't activate them until you are in battle or psychic combat.
