Army List thread

By blkdymnd, in Dust Warfare

Figured this would be a good spot to start an army list thread. I'd like to keep this away from hypotheticals and use it for lists we've played and the post what you learned good or bad for future reference. I'll start it off with my list I played Thursday:

Combat platoon

The Boss

The Gunners w extra Bazooka

Death Dealers w Priest attached

Recon Boys

Steel Rain

Observer Team

Elite Platoon

Action Jackson w Command Red Devils

2x Red Devil Squads

The good… I was getting my arse handed to me by a damage resilient Schwer platoon. I kept all my Devils and maybe even kept them. One tur too long, but once they arrived I was able to wreck havoc with the phasers and what was left of the Combat platoon

The bad… The Combat platoon was pretty slow and it showed. Being able to get another walker or a BBQ squad might have helped keep me solvent until the Devils arrived. The Steel Rain isn't quite as good as its Tactics counterpart on straight damage, I may need to use 2 if I'm going to use one at all. Having multiple line of sight helped with it though.

Overall

Overall

Overall, I highly recommend the Red Devil platoon if youre up to fielding them. They were fantastic and well worth being a little spendy. I'll definitely get 2 more for a full platoon. Oh and the list above is 300 points.

For my first full game, we did 200 AP.

I did:
Combat Platoon
The Boss (25 AP) (deployed embarked on the Punisher)
BBQ Squad (21 AP)
The Hammers (28 AP)
Rhino (22 AP) (attached to Hammers)
Punisher (100 AP)

Total: 196 AP

I mainly picked this army because I wanted to try out my heavy walkers which I had just purchased. It ended up being far more effective than I had hoped.

The Hammers and Rhino are even better in Dust Warfare than they were in Dust Tactics, thanks to their inversed attack dice, and the fact that almost now Armor 2 Soldier units can react to them in close combat.

Having such a small army due to fielding the Punisher (which was hafl my AP) meant that I always won initiative, which was a huge advantage.

We started with Force Collision deployment, meaning we started at quite the distance, making it very difficult for my opponent to get up close to my heavy walker and take it out, so overall this army worked quite well for me.

The main weakness with this army is that if your opponent does get a lucky shot on your heavy walker, you've lost half your army and have no walkers left. Oh well, it was still a fun army to field.

Anyway you guys could post the lists you've played against too? It might be good seeing as an Axis player, what really ***** face on the Allies aspect of things and even vice versa, teach new Allies players what they need against those nawty Germans. :3

Mine was against one Schwer platoon. I believe it was as follows

Axis NCO Command Squad

Heavy Flak Grenadiers

Heavy Laser Grenadiers

Heavy Recon Grenadiers

Lara

Sturmkoenig

I find it interesting that people are building list of only 1 platoon at 300pts. I'd think the tactical flexibility of have 2 command sections would be a better choice then one nasty platoon with only 1 command section.

So far I have only played 2 games, a 150 AP game using the contents of the First Edition Dust Tactics Starter box (3 squads, Hero, and 2 Mediums each) and a Teaching intro game at around 115 AP using a command squad, 1 squad, a Hero, and a Scout Walker each that wasn't 100% legal armies. So far I have learned that (Man I am drawing a big blank, I have learned a lot more then this):

  1. Flamer Throwers are nasty and you want to keep at least 1 suppression marker on them at all times if possible
  2. Lasers can be hard to use with their 12-16" range, but can decimate squads quick if they catch a squad out in the open with no Suppression markers
  3. Sniper Rifles are awesome (observation, not tried them yet in game)
  4. Having the Fast advantage is nice, and can make or break a unit (Hell Boys, Blackhawk, etc)
  5. Having the ability to React to enemy movement and fire can be clutch to winning a game, however making sure a unit can react when the time is right can be very difficult to achieve too.

More as I think of it/ play more games. I hope to get a several more games in this week.

I'll necro this thread. Army list feedback and critiques for any game are always good.

I played 2 games today, both 150 pts. I had a 300 pt. list ready to go but it was only my 2nd game, my first opponent's 1st so we went light. The 2nd game against a guy that had a few games under his belt. Here's my lists:

1st game-150 Schwer

Hvy. Kommandotrupp

Hvy. Recon Grenadiers x2

Ludwig

Sniper Team

The other guy fielded what was pretty much an all-around general purpose platoon. I learned today that Hvy. Recon Grenadiers are lawnmowers against soldier-2 troops. I won.

2nd game-150 pt. Schwer-I kind of put this one together on the fly.

Hvy. Kommandotrupp

Hvy Laser Grenadiers

Gorillas

Sniper Team

Ludwig

The other guy had both a light and medium tank along with his troops. Once again I am drawing a blank on what units comprised the other force. I lost this one and definitely played the gorillas wrong by not laying down effective suppressing fire to clear the way for their attack.
