RTL Overlord questions

By Dunadin777, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So I've been looking for these answers for a while on the forum, and still can't find them.

1) More of a clarification, really. The OL gets CT for: week progression; cities razed; heroes killed. Does he get CT for going through his deck? I thought so, but when reading the rulebook most recently, I couldn't find it.

2)The following is an extended question: Is each level of a dungeon 3 successive quests, or are they essentially 3 areas of one quest?

If one considers them 3 quests, then the OL hand, deck, power cards, and threat are reset each level. If they are 3 areas of one quest, then do you still reshuffle the OL deck between each level, or is that part of the level setup only intended for the first level? What about treachery?

I'm inclined towards the 1 quest, 3 areas interpretation, but since my players are fairly experienced, I want to have support for my position.

1. It probably isn't in the RtL rulebook. It doesn't need to be. Its a standard Descent rule and is covered by the pg 5 text But unless the basic rules of Descent are specifically overridden by the Advanced Campaign rules, they remain in effect.

2. the term 'quest' does not apply in RtL. It is one DUngeon, with three independent levels (essentially three areas in one quest to answer in your terms).

From FAQ pg 8

Dungeon Levels
The Dungeon Level Setup rules on page 17 are misleading. The Overlord should shuffle his deck and draw a new hand only at the start of the first dungeon level, not every level in a given dungeon.

Treachery is also only applied at the start of the dungeon - you add your treachery slection to the deck before shuffling it.

Bullocks!

At the risk of negating my own thread, I have found the answers to all except the question of shuffling the deck. Between dungeon levels, does the OL add his discards to the deck and reshuffle or no? This could significantly hinder his progress towards going through the deck 3 times.

Also, in order to keep my thread valid... Anyone else do any illustrations for their Descent games/characters/avatars? I'm a frequent RPG GM and I love coming up with illustrations for my PCs and major NPCs. I've also taken up 3D art, and am starting to think about making illustrations for my avatar. Anyone interested/doing the same thing?

Don't hate me for asking redundant questions!

Also, in my defence, the confusion over whether one got CT for going through the OL deck is legitimate, since in the basic game the OL doesn't get CT. period. He gets threat, which is distinctly different in RTL. I assumed that the deck bonus would translate over to CT, but that would be making an a$$ out of u and med.

Thanks for the quick response. FFG has the best forums around for this very reason. Quick, involved users.

The base game bonus is CT, not threat.

DJitD pg 11

When the overlord player draws the last card in the overlord deck, the heroes immediately lose three conquest tokens.

The catch is that CT 'lost' by Heroes in basic Descent are converted into CT gained by the OL in RtL. Its only implied in the RtL rules IIRC, but was clarified in an answer somewhere (possibly in the list of answered questions?) .
