Close combat

By Krauthead, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

Hello. I am from germany, and i really like the stories about crazy nazis, zombies and secret weapons. so i started to play DT

Since few weeks i am playing DT and it is very amazing. i allready red the rule book ( the revised one) but i have some questions. first question is about close combat.:

is it right that CC doesnt cost AP? for example: move, attack and than CC. (after declaring that i want to do so) so CC ist an action of free cost.

( i know CC is resolving simultaneous).

thanks for quick answer.

CC is not really a free action. It's just part of a normal Attack action. When you Attack, you can use all of your weapon lines, including range C. The only difference is that the C line gets resolved after the others have inflicted their damage, and it allows the target to retaliate simultaneously with his own C weapons. And they ignore cover.

The only case in which it IS sort of a free action is for a units with the Charge skill. Such a unit can Move, Move again and then perform an Attack with all of its C weapons.

OK i understand.

So it is not possible to attack a unit, than move to another unit and perfom cc.

only to a unit i have perform an attack i can perform ( if i like ) CC. i think thats the right way, right?

Yes, that's it. CC is just part of a normal Attack.

thanks a lot aplauso.gif

If you add CC to a combat don't you also add simultaneous enemy CC damage? I ran into this when I had my grenadiers trying to kill all of the hammers off with ranged attacks at 1 range (ie they were in the next square). Before I rolled I was pretty sure I couldn't get them all so I didnt want to risk grenade/knife CC attacks and then take a truck load of simultaneous rocket punch damage. Was I playing this wrong? Did I have to use CC? Was I right that if I use my knives they get to flatten me with rocket punches (so the last two hammer wounds could lose me most of my squad)?

You can attack with as many weapons as you wish designating a target fr each weapon line, you do not have to use any weapon line if you do not wish to.

Close combat is a normal weapon line with 3 special rules adjacent only, it is rolled for after other attacks have been resolved and the defender can retaliate with any close combat attacks they have. Close combat = range C and only range C. A unit with 4 weapon lines can attack with 1, 2, 3, or all 4 against a maximumof 4 different targets.

So yeah, you always have the option of not using your C weapons, and thus not being counter-attacked.

Hi Krauthead, where exactly are you from? I' d just like to know because I live in Braunschweig.

@Loophole Master. Yes, it is a risk to use CC against good CC-Fighters like the Hammers. But if the squad has nothing to loose, it s an option to make as much damage as possible.

@??! Hi, I am from Aachen.

Keep in mind that your CC attack doesn't have to target the same unit as your ranged attacks. For example, your grim reapers could use their MG's against a infantry unit, and then use their rocket punch against a walker. The only limit is that they must resolve all their attacks (ranged then CC) together, either before or after using their other action.
