Audio SOTG with Steve Horvath Feb 2009

By Scubadude, in UFS General Discussion

I also agree, ditch the intro music. Aside from the fact that it's WAY too long, it's also a large enough portion of the song that it would likely be copyright infringment. Pick one or two people to do the interview (maybe have the others on AIM or something).

I'm REALLY dissappointed by the way Steve dissed Legacy. People are shelling out hundreds and thousands of dollars on cards and he basically said "As soon as the cards cycle we don't really care about them anymore." I understand that supporting Legacy should be secondary to supporting the "current block" but it should be bigger then any other format out there, and it should mean something. And not just the winner gets a game console or box of cards or some crap like that, it should have a meaningful prize just like Singles and Teams do. I don't think that's too much to ask, and I don't think that takes away from Singles anymore then Teams does.

Knowing that I'm "leasing" the cards really makes me not want to purchase more, or at least, not purchase much. It also gives the impression that the game is ephemeral, and that FFG doesn't have confidence in it's lasting power.

Honestly, for a podcast, you don't really need an intro song, maybe, at most, 15 seconds, really just to ease into the thing.

Set 12 will be 8 characters. Which means that base sets will be 8 characters. Expansions will be 5. Each character will have 18 support cards. Forever and ever. Means less characters pulled, more support and actually being able to build a deck with a single character. About 6 attacks, 6 or 7 foundations and 4 support cards (which could be 1 action and 3 assets, 2 and 2 or 3 and 1 or so) PER character.

As a theme-deck builder, this is actually good news. Trying to build a Makoto theme deck is just sad. I settle on Makoto/Alex, but it's just a bit too schizophrenic, even for a crappy theme deck.

Also, I second Aslum's feelings, re: Legacy. Legacy should have big win prizes. Personally I'd like a Legacy Worlds tournament to have a character prize, just like normal Worlds, except that it's only legal in Legacy. (I'd also like a Legacy Worlds to be Highlander.)

Character creation contest with Shadowar. You write background and stuff. If you win, you help design. Winner gets some of the card ahead of time, too. You don't get all the copies, like you do if you win a card, but some ahead of time. More details later.

I remember distinctly saying this would definitely tie the players to ShadoWar were they to do a contest like this. I was also exclaiming that those of us with a creative itch could not really find our niche in the community.

Well, we have our outlet now.

I've already begun brainstorming ideas for characters.

You're going down, Hatman.

Well .... great going guys .. yea just great now im more excited about the upcoming SCIV set then before ><. I love some of the ideas they are doing though the characters especially. Imo characters are the center of the deck and should be alot more treasured then they are now. I mean all I hear when a person pulls a character is a groan. At some points it was hard to hear Steve though so if you could somehow fix that then cool. The starting music was cool but it lasted too long before the talking actually started lol. I wish I could go to gen con I would love to challenge some of you guys but sadly im all the way over in seattle washington XD. I think the thing I was happy about most was hearing that set 12 has amazing artwork that really made my day. All in all good job guys I look forward to the next one.

Actually I'd just like to say that's a matter of their opinion. What they may biasedly see as awesome we make think is crappy.

Hoonestly Steve could say set9's art was good ¬_¬.

Hehe a create a charcter competitiion i'll be right on it, were do we submit our entries??

It's kind of obvious that will be the case.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't think that less character promos is a good thing. I do like the idea of character box-toppers, that makes sense to me, as some people will want it (as long as it's a decent character) and some people will want to trade them off unlike LotM, BRT or Higher Caliber when everyone wanted 4 copies of them. But I think that if care isn't taken (admittedly cards like Heel Snipe I like for being good but not great for everyone) the game will end up with a severe curve leaning toward people who win more often, because they'll be able to get cards that the losing people won't, which will stretch the power curve between them to greater levels than before. Character promos didn't really have that problem, but we'll have to just wait and see how it all pans out.

Tekken = YAY for me. Nina = MORE YAY for me :D

The create a character for Shadowar is certainly interesting, not sure how I personally would go about making one, but it's a very good idea.

I don't care so much about the nature of the promos, just that we, y'know, actually get them? Still haven't gotten the ones from January.
