Need Campaign Advice

By Dwarfgod52, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

Hello Fellow Gms,

I haven't posted in awhile but, I have run into a snag and need some ideas to help me out. During the last campaign I had everyone buy their equipment for a mission they thought was about to occur. However, as they were about to leave the watch base they were attacked by tyranid. The watch commander went off by himself and fought while feeding the kill team (one of the very few teams actually ready for a raid by chance) new objectives. They were able to save many marines and collect gene seed of fallen ones along with meeting old friends and faces from throughout the entire year we have played so far. Towards the end they realized an inquistor ship was the one who blocked their defenses. what they don't know at the moment is that the inquisitor is in fact in control of an artifact that acts like a hive tyrant and he was in fact controlling the tyranid who attacked. As the game ended they saw two squads of marines attempt to board the inquisitor ship. While one squad made it the other was wiped out and the living marines were taken away as the ship took off into the warp. I concluded the game by giving them the list of dead and alive marines. (i have a list of every marine, there specialty and squad name on a master list) and they were shocked that over half the deathwatch was actually wiped out. Now my two smart players are pretty sure the inquistor was behind it all and a heretic. i was wondering if anyone would think it interesting if the inquisitor actually thinks hes the good guy. He believes the deathwatch to be evil and wishes its destruction. he will posion the minds of admirals, imperial guard and maybe even other marines to attack the KT if they get close. But i need some feedback on if thats a good idea, and some ideas on how to get that idea going. Any advice and campaign ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance!

There is next to no possibility that the Inquisitor considers himself the villan of the piece. My thoughts on why he might attack the Deathwatch:

*They're far too likely to find out about his experiments and shut them down - by attacking forst, the Inquisitor can ensure his vital experiments to safeguard the imperium can continue in peace.

*The Deathwatch are the perfect testing ground - if the puppetted Nids can deal with the Imperiums greatest Alien hunters, then surely they could kill anything else out there.

*The Inquisitor intends to use his fininte number of captured Nids to cause minor damage across the Imperium. A squad of Deathwatch here, a regiment of guardsmen there, all attacks made for the same purpose - to bring strength to the Imperium. Each survivable attack ensuresthe Imperium bolsters its defences in that region, making it more likely that a real attack will be properly defended against.

*The Inquisitor isn't doing it for his own purposes. An alien witch (Eldar, the Hive Tyrant itself, Warp Entity, whatever) has actually dominated the Inquisitor AND the Nids and is just using the Inquisitor to attack imperial installations in order to start a local civil war.

*It was the Deathwatch that were actually corrupt. Most of the older kill teams in that watch station had been comprimised. When the players find out, they'll find themselves caught in the crossfire between an insane Inquisitor and their own brothers who are hunting them through the stars.

Just a couple of thoughts off the top of my head. Hope something sparks some interest!

Thanks kylan the idea of him using the nids as a way to trick the imperium into action is fantastic, i love it.

Inquisitor can be quite destructive and offensive for the Imperium. If some believe in the eunended status quo some believe that trough hell the Imperuium will become greater.

Those inquisitor from Radical way of mind can be exactly the type of people able to kill a world, so why not some SM, to make the Imperium fight back and became stronger. But from time to time some of them are dominated by their former demonic slave, late xenos artifact and sometime they also go rogue.

Istvaanian philosophy is awesome. I highly recommend reading up on it in Dark Heresy's Radical's Handbook if you choose that route.

istavanism is perfect for this story arc! Thank you so much

As have been said Istvaanism is a good choice to justify this type of stuff. He could also be a Xenos Hybris Inquisitor who don't want the Deathwatch to maim and murder the glorious xenos that he loves. That could also explain that he got the artefact from a bunch of xenos. Or he could have a grudge against the Deathwatch for one reason or another.
