SW MO Regionals 2012!- May 25th-27th

By Kennon, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

This post is to make certain that everyone knows we have have sorted out our scheduling issues and no longer overlap with Iowa's regional in June. We're hoping that making use of the long weekend with our new schedule allows players more ease in travel time on both sides of the event than usual, so help us make this the biggest stateside Regional again this year! Carl at Metagames Inc. has been hard at work over the last week planning out the schedule and starting the prize and food arrangements, so come check out the Facebook event to RSVP and discuss.

For anyone just interested in a breakdown of the events that they can view from the forums:

Also, be aware that the prize list is preliminary and I will be actively looking for some more to add to the already awesome FFG Regional kit.

For anyone wanting to attend and needing a place to stay, my house will be open!

I have 4 extra beds, a sectional couch that sleeps 2, and 3 inflatable mattresses. As well, I have plenty of extra floor space. I will have food and drink aplenty! In past years we have had many practice games (both Joust and Melee) taking place during the off hours from the tourney.

So if you would like to come and enjoy a very fun weekend of Thrones, and you would like to save some money on lodging and food, please come crash at my house.

And if you are planning on doing this, please let me know so I can plan for the proper number of people :)

Got confirmation of a carload from Iowa staying at my place!

Please let me know if you are planning on coming!

Looks like we have a gaming group account now!

I hope Meta-Games Unlimited sets up their store account soon as well to help everyone track the AGOT goodness at our store.

Just a reminder, if you are wanting to come and need a place to stay for the weekend, I still have room!

I can sleep up to 9 on beds, couches and air mattress and even more on the floor. I only have 3 reserved so far!

Kicking off the meet and greet tonight!

You must not be a facebook fan of the podcast. Greg won with a greyjoy Maester trait manipulation deck.

Yup, make sure you find us on Facebook and become a fan of the cast. I posted periodic updates through the page over the weekend. Expect more information during the cast this week, but Greg won both the Melee and Joust events, but tied Kyle for points overall, so they've been declared Co Champs.

Greg played Martell Maesters in Melee and Greyjoy Maesters in Joust.

Kyle played Targaryen Heir to the Iron Throne in Melee and Lannister Power Behind the Throne in Joust.

There were 18 players for the Melee and 22 for Joust. Quite a few people that we expected to be there simply were aren't around this weekend, which was a bit of a bummer, but there was great fun to be had regardless.

I played Martell Maester Rush for Melee. Almost no control at all, just rush, rush rush. The final table was essentially won by me when on the second turn, Valar was flipped by two players while I revealed Power of Blood. I had the Red Viper on the Table. It still took me another round to win the game, but that turn pretty much locked it up.

I played Greyjoy Maester Winter Trait Manipulation for Joust. 3x Copper Links, 3x Horn of the Dragons, 3x Winter Mance Rayder….the deck did exceptionally well. My only loss was to Zeiler in the swiss portion, who pulled off the Citadel Law + TLS + Rule By Decree + Threat from the East combo in the very first plot phase to knock be down to 1 card in hand to start the game. I still managed to make a game of it and lost 9-8 in power when time was called.

I love that Trait Manipulation did so well. I tried out a Tarag trait manipulation recently but it did not seem to beat the top decks. I just recently finished a Grejoy winter one which I have been testing.

I am not sure if you are gone share you deck but I have a quick question did you run any event based cancel in it? I keep going back and forth on Finger Dance but just can’t make up my mind.

I added 3x Paper Shield just 30 minutes before the tournament started. This was a very good decision. They were useful all day.

I actually built the whole deck at about 5 am the morning of the Joust. I'll post the decklist very soon when I have it in front of me.

One more quick note

I did not use a Restricted card in either of my decks.

And I only played Valar one time in my 7 joust games, which happened to be the one game I lost.
