Inexperienced player seeks move clarification

By LinLou2, in Talisman

Hi! Have just bought and started playing the 4th Edition (2007) of Talisman. I find the rules quite vague and would appreciate some guidance regarding the way in which a square is encountered.

Scenario: Dice is rolled, player moves onto square with another players character already on it. The square reads 'take 2 cards' unless cards there. This mean discarded cards from player been turned into toad? Or any adventure cards, such as market? There is one 'Hobgoblin' card already there also to be killed. What order does everything happen? Do you have to attack other player?

Any help much appreciated

You choose before drawing cards if you want to engage the character or the square, so when you have start drawing the crads for the square the other character are no longer an option for you.

And any cards on that space counts, so if there are a all dropped sword there you draw one card (if it says draw two). And if it 2 or more you draw none.

If you land on a hobgoblin and a charcter you can fight one of them (if you land on two hobgoblins and a character you can fight both hobgoblins or the charcter, so it's charcter or cards). If it is one hobgoblin on a draw two card space and you want to engage it you draw another card as well. If there are different type of cards you encounter them in the order of the numbers in the buttom right corner (iirc).

Hope you understand my english.
