5th Rangers Bn.

By JigBakerSugar, in Dust Tactics

With Dust Warfare out, I've finally gotten around to painting up some stuff. First up is an Allied Command Squad.

Unfortunately, I screwed up. I wanted to include a platoon sergeant, and when choosing who got what rank, I forgot the squad had a medic. (I had re-primed them, as I prefer to paint over white.) So, the medic ended up as a sergeant first class. I'm not up enough on my history to know if medics were ever sergeants. Ah, well.

Wow, stunning, especially the faces!

A really nice squad!

Fantastic work all around! Very nice.

Wow sweeeet, i love the battledamage and the bases.

The faces are soo good! man genius stuff!!

Brilliant work, I think these guys maybe my favourite infantry models on this forum. If I may can I ask a couple of questions?

1, Are the Ranger badge decals from Company B?

2. Where did you get the Waterbottles and pouches from?

Thanks in advance.

1. Nope, all the badges and insignia are hand painted. I got some Company B decals, but they were too thick and kinda lousy quality. I did get some Dust decals, though, so the stars and lettering on my walkers (when I get to them) will be decals.

2. Tamiya. They are 1/35 scale accessories, but they look fine on the Dust figures.

The hand painted insignia's look great

Awesome job on the faces!! You're a real good painter man.

Those rank patches are just great. Inspiring!

Is it just me or do the 1/35 scale accessories look better than the 1/48 ones do for Dust minis?

It's hit or miss. Partly because Dust figures are about right for 1/48 in height, but are thicker and bulkier, probably closer to 1/35 in girth, while scale kits are typically close to scale-accurate in all dimensions. So 1/35 items where the length/width/height are fairly close together seem to be right. Things like weapons, though, with one dimension much greater, look wrong. A canteen might be out of scale height-wise, but is unnoticeable because the length and width are about right. A rifle looks clearly wrong, though, because it'll be almost as long as a figure is tall, even though the grips and thickness will appear about right. 1/48 items are the opposite- a rifle will be about the right length, though it will appear to be a bit delicate. Canteens will be about the right height, but look wrong because they'll appear too small in the other two dimensions.
