How do I attach the machine gun to my allied heavy walker?

By felkor, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

So I just got my allied heavy walker, and I can't seem to see any place to attach the machine gun. Looking at pictures online, except for the models on display at GenCon, I can't find pictures with the machine gun on, which makes me think that other people couldn't figure out either (even FFG's pictures of the unpainted walker don't include the machine gun.)

Has anybody been able to attach it, and if so, how?

The machine gun should be attached to the ring surrounding the top hatch. The rings has two holes on the sides, and if you want you can drill a third hole towards the front. The existing holes are a bit too wide to securely hold the MG, so you need to either thicken the MG's peg by painting it with a couple of layers, or just super glue it to the hole.

Thanks.

The few pictures I found of it clearly had it in the front of the ring, and it definitely didn't fit there.

I'll probably at some point glue it into one of the side holes.

On top of this, one of the little square hatches on the side is missing (instead there's a little ugly hole and an area where the walker isn't primed.)

Made for a bit of a disappointing purchase - hopefully they will send me a replacement hatch.

Don't worry FFG had the best customer service just contact them and they will send the part.

Yeah, I sent an email right away and I've been told that they will send me replacement parts.

Got a tiny envelope today with my hatch in it! 2 weeks isn't bad, I'd say, considering it came from Hong Kong.

My turret ring didnt have a front hole in it, but closer inspection showed it had the thinnest skin of plastic covering the front hole known to man, a quick poke with a pin solved it.

Thanks for the heads up! It hought I was going to have to drill it out, but hopefully it's that easy and I can get the gun in. I'll have to try that tonight.

The models are getting some major drop down in terms of quality. My Fireball lacked the dragon mouth on one side of the main gun:/

That sucks, but if you email Dust Studios, they will respond very quickly and get you a new part. (I emailed both Dust Studios and FFG, but FFG said they were way behind sending replacement parts out and I should expect to have to wait awhile.)

I checked my heavy walker, and sure enough, the hole is there for the machine gun but covered by a thin layer of primer - easily poked through with a pin. I shouldn't have any issue adding the machine gun now. Thanks!

So I emailed both Dust Studios and FFG about the missing part.

Dust Studios mailed me the missing hatch, but then a few days later, I got an entire walker body from FFG! What awesome customer service from both of them!

But now I'm in a quandary - I now have the pieces to field 2 heavy walkers (one Punisher and one Fireball.) My Axis army is falling behind - do I need to buy a 2nd Axis Heavy Walker to make them even? Oh what a problem to have.

Hehe, yeah, it's nice to have the option to field both at the same time for those 4-player 600AP missions in Cerberus.

Yeah, I've done one of those games, but I don't think they will happen very often. I'd more likely to see 2 get used in a Dust Warfare game (where they still work well even with smallish sized forces.)

But I've got a lot of other purchases on the shopping list - heavy command squads, and light walkers, for instance, so the Axis will probably just have to suck it up! At least for a little while. :-)

Going to have to send a pic of my 2 allied heavy walkers to my friend who plays the Axis side though, just to scare him a little, hehe.

Glad to know I'm not an incompetent, insane person; I couldn't find the proper placement either. Not to get that **** dozer blade/main gun assembly working!
