"X" pansions!

By Budgernaut, in X-Wing

Thanks for that. First time I've seen the expansions in their packaging. Don't know why it even matters, but I'm a little disappointed that part of the flight stand is integral to the ship. Just doesn't look right.

Oh, how I hope they're all wrong about July… :(

The packaging looks nice. My local game store confirmed that the game was delayed in order to re-do the sculpts and the packaging really shows them off. Now imagine 10" capital ships packaged in a blister pack?

Hurry up FFG…I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME!!!

"All of the X-Wing miniatures have been recreated to scale with painstaking accuracy, and the results are stunning."

IG-58 and Dog Solitude, how does this statement jive with your expert peepers?

Curses, IJT! My peepers are the reason I can't look closely at these! (Not on the interwebz, anyway.) Joking aside, I would need to physically see them and measure them to really know. Based on the packaging, (and I didn't take the time to make any defined measurements), it appears that the TIE fighter is about the same height as the X-Wing is long. IIRC, the X-Wing is about 12.6m long. I'm not sure on the actual height of the TIE fighter, so I don't know if they are relatively close or not. Seems like the TIE fighter might be a little big. If I were to try and make measurements, I'd guesstimate the size of the holes where the packaging fits over the peg on the store displays, then use that as a tool to measure against the models in the packaging. It might be a WAG, but it might get you in the ballpark. Eyeballing that on my phone, and the X-Wing could be 42-60mm in length (assuming the peg hole is 7-10mm). That's roughly…1.6-2.3 inches? I haven't been able to read a lot of the stuff on the forums, but I'm guessing IG-58 has already made some estimations somewhere. My completely uneducated WAG is around 1/300 scale for the X-Wing. How close am I to his?

I've got all the ships for the WOTC game… and that game works and flows very well.

Bring out your dead (threads)!!

*starts to load shotgun* **** zombies always ruin my lawn.

Blimey! This topic is a 'blast from the past'. Where'd all this mud come from by the way? ;)

I thought we agreed in committee it was called threadromancy.

And the penalties were to be cruel and unusual.

So stop posting already to not bring it back up all the time.

;)

Wow a wave 1 thread, why Zathras??

I think the trick is to find a bunch of other people who collect in your area. You could build the trench, but then pool ships together to build the final battle. If you got 6 people, each with 10 ships, everyone just spends about $130. (The reason it's a little cheaper than your $900 estimate is that the starter is $5 cheaper than 3 ships. Also, you could get some good online deals that will further cut your costs, and if you choose to buy multiple core sets, you can improve on the $5 saved.)

Of course, it'd be more fun to own all the ships yourself.

If I were to buy all the ships for the death star assault, I'd probably do the following:

18x Y-wing = $270

6x Starter = $240

6x X-wing = $90

17x TIE Fighter = $255

1x TIE Advanced = $15

TOTAL = $870

This results in 30 ships on each side, 12 X-wings, 18 Y-wings, 29 TIE Fighters, and 1 TIE Advanced. Okay, so the savings aren't that great, but hey, with the $30 saved you could probably buy the Millennium Falcon when it comes out.

EDIT: But the logistics of a 60-craft game seem like a nightmare, to me. I think the tedium would rob the enjoyment.

I know this thread is dead, and this poster is gone, but he's got it wrong:

20 X-wings

8 Y-wings

2 A-wings

8 Ties

1 Tie Advanced

And to think the rebels only made it back with 1 Y-wing, 2 A-wings, and 6-8 X-wings. Those Tie pilots were pretty hardcore.

I love how none of the people posting back in 2012 are still posting today.

This was actually a pretty cool thread to read. It's a lot of the same speculation we have currently about Armada.

[squeeling with delight] I can't believe there's finally an update!!!! I am so stoked about the pilots -- like Salm for the Y-wing and Maarek Steele for the TIE advanced!

Oh, the heady young days of unbridled enthusiasm. I hope he recovered from the let-down that these pilots turned out to be.

?

Parakitor and I.J. Thompson are still regular posters.

I've been on here since 2012.
