Always accused, never a cylon

By loki_tbc, in Battlestar Galactica

I love this game!!! I only wish that I wasn't the most obvious choice to be a cylon (even when I am not!). Maybe it's just that I am a sneaky git normally, but I get the "You're the cylon!" accusation even before the game is out of the box and on the table!!!

In any case, what kinds of behaviour would you consider to be "cylon-esque"? In other words, what kinds of things might tip you off that someone is covertly a cylon?

The obvious stuff, like using strategic planning to add to a basestar's attack roll is... obvious. As for when you're not overtly a cylon, suspicious behaviour might include:

1. Trying to get the admiral or president title without cause. So, if the president isn't a cylon, don't start an election.

2. Attempting to throw people in the brig without the backing of the other players. You can say "I dunno, I think he's a cylon, what do you guys think?" but if you use the Admiral's Quarters without warning, alarm bells will go off.

3. Some players think that sub-optimal play is a sign of a cylon. For example, there are centurions on the boarding track, and there's a pilot fighting a few raiders, and you decide to spend your action repairing some vipers, or drawing cards with the Press Room or Research Lab locations, people might think you're doing what you can to not help out.

4. Sabotaged skill checks. Some players will try to frame others by drawing skill cards (by way of locations or Consolidate Power) matching distinctive players (i.e. Piloting card for pilots, or engineering cards for the Chief). To avoid this, you ought to point out that people are drawing cards not best used for skill checks.

Well, I've known the guys I play BSG with for a long time, so I look for ANYTHING out of the ordinary from them. I also look for erratic decision making, etc. The only problem is that a good Cylon knows the humans are looking for anything out of the ordinary and will usually act completely normal, making all of this more difficult than it sounds. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Ha! This happens way too often. I do tend to end up thrown in the brig as people assume I'm evil. It happens. Oddly, the more vehement I've been about doing risky or crazy things, I've not ended up in the brig as much as when I've been friendly. I guess what Mattr0polis said about anything out of the ordinary counts, even if it's a person perceived by his friends as evil working for the team.

I'm kind of in the other boat. In my group I'm the one with all the games and other people always come to play them. Because of this, they always assume I'm the game master and pick on me.

So, every game of BSG we play, they are always accusing me right at the start of the game. This is not a huge problem except that almost every time we play, I am a cylon! Boo!
