Regenerate - What can't it do?

By Darth Smeg, in Dark Heresy

Regenerate says: "Once all Damage is removed, you begin to regrow lost organs, limbs, and so on."

That's pretty handy. But does it leave you looking as pretty as new? Does it heal scarring, burns and other permanent damage? Can it let you escape an 8 Critical Energy hit to the head? (The one that leaves you looking like a bunt match, and halves your Fel).

Will it make your hair grow back? Your tattoos?

I'd say up to GM.

My take on this for what it matters, is it will regrow back to DNA standard, so any mods, no come back ie tattoos, but hair yes, Crit damage is fixed to standard but looks like new fresh skin.

now if your DNA is tweaked it will show when u regrow

In your shoes I'd decide if it were a naturalistic sort of regeneration (i.e. a reptilian regrowth of a tail) or some magnificent warp inspired regrowth where the warp "remakes" a snapshot of the body part in question.

In this sense it sort of changes a little of how the ability 'could' function with the 'natural' regrowth probably regrowing to the "new standard" (in the example of with tattoos and facial deformation) or the mystical remake of the the body part due to the power and nature of the warp (being the other extreme)

I'd suggest the same as PnPgamer as a general rule (but my gut tells me that making players work around short comings like lost fel from damage adds more flavor to the game so I'd probably keep the negative effects from such things)

How grim-dark do you want it?

If we're talking Culture equivelent tech then the regenerative agent reads your DNA and regrows a perfect specimen. There could be some memory loss though.

If grim dark, then functionality is preserved, but you could be an ugly sucker, or perhaps even 'too perfect' i.e no wrinkes, weathering, etc.

I would say "No" to foreign bodies though, such as tattoo ink, therefore no tattoos.

Another factor that I would consider in my response is what is the source of the regeneration and what would actually kill such a character?

The source is The Warp. I'm talking of the Biomancy power.

So tech-level is not really relevant.

I agree with Angel of Death: DNA would be the template for Regeneration, so yes to fixing the Fellowship of Matchhead, no to re-growing tattoos/implants. hair yes, but not in the previous style: you would end up looking like the astronauts in Planet of the Apes , i.e. a month's worth of uncontrolled hair growth.

Hehe, that's a nice touch with the apeman hairgrowth. Classic :)
